Tillerson: China agrees on 'action' on North Korea as navy strike group sails

Secretary of state: ‘President Xi understands the situation has intensified’ Syria missile strike described by North as ‘intolerable act of aggression’

Edward Helmore and agencies Sunday 9 April 2017 15.31 BST

As the US navy deployed a strike group towards the western Pacific Ocean, to provide a presence near the Korean peninsula, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said China agrees with the Trump administration that “action has to be taken” regarding North Korea.

Tillerson told CBS’s Face the Nation, in an interview broadcast on Sunday, that when Donald Trump and Chinese president Xi Jinping met at Mar-a-Lago this week, they “had extensive discussions around the dangerous situation in North Korea”.

“President Xi clearly understands, and I think agrees, that the situation has intensified and has reached a certain level of threat that action has to be taken,” Tillerson said.

Tillerson described a “shared view and no disagreement as to how dangerous the situation has become”.

In view of the regional threat now posed by North Korean missile tests and nuclear ambitions, he said, the Chinese “do not believe the conditions are right today to engage in discussions with the government in Pyongyang”.

“We’re hopeful,” he added, “that we can work together with the Chinese to change the conditions in the minds of the DPRK leadership. And then, at that point, perhaps discussions may be useful.

As another thread stated, “The world wants the US to do something so they can bitch about it later.”

Probably too late for that; decapitation of the leader is one of the options presented according to reports

“Chicaps” works for me.

Perhaps one day we’ll be able to talk about NorCaps. . How much convincing do the Chicaps need to turn the Norks into trading partners? Our Capitalist president may pull it off. And the libs will hate, hate, hate him for it. Imagine suppressing all those poor people with factory jobs.

China does not want to lose the USA as its biggest customer for their manufactured products. Remember, the customer is always right!!!

During their meeting, I believe the two presidents reached an "either you fix this or we will" agreement about Jr.

I suspect that attitudes and personnel will soon be "unexpectedly" adjusted to this new understanding.

The ChiComs lost a lot of People supporting Little Kim’s Grand-Dad. Their families still remember so it’s politically touchy to turn on the Norks no matter how crazy they are.

looks like Trump and Tillerson are willing for Xi’s leadership to convince N.Korea to stand down before any actions will be taken. They’re giving Xi opportunity to quiet the situation …..

I wonder what "stand down" means…hopefully lie down in a grave.

“The Nork situation will only be solved when the Chicoms give Krazy Kim the choice between exile and rule from Beijing or an invasion by the PLA and a dirt nap.”

Well, then it will never be solved.

"I would hope South Korea was paying attention when the two Germany were re-united. I think it would be prudent to keep North Korea isolated for at least one generation to allow the citizens of the North time to adjust and time for the South to begin absorbing them into the 21st Century."

That opportunity came and went in '94 when the old man died (and a lesser oppo when Ger-bil died in 2011 under the Bobo regime).

No, this one will be messy, but hey the Norks earned the negative karma themselves...

"President Xi clearly understands, and I think agrees, that the situation has intensified and has reached a certain level of threat that action has to be taken,” Tillerson said.

Well this is NO time to "think" he agrees, it is time to be damn certain he agrees. We have a battle group of ships steaming toward S and NK with thousands of young lives that will be putting their lives on the line on some "thinking game". You are getting paid to know things and especially when it comes to the ChiComs.

Also with our President talking about eliminating (killing, assasinating) a standing President (which we as a Country do not condone), we better KNOW and not think that the Chicoms are willing to back our play.

Then the other option that we hear that the President is entertaining is placing nukes on the SK peninsula. Again, we better be damn sure we KNOW and not think that the Chicoms have our back.

I believe the Chinese have a lot to lose if we are attacked in SK and are willing to see that NK is hobbled. How that is done I am not sure how China will proceed but it is not our place to hobble them. Let China do the heavy lifting and we should sit back and take a wait and see attitude. I believe President Trump got his point across to Xi when he hit Syria. Hitting NK with a nuke is a larger step in the world theater than blowing up a few planes and mud huts.

China will mow down the North Korean refugees, perhaps even use some of the chemicals. CNN won’t be as outraged and there will not be missile strikes on the Chinese.

At some point a general will have had enough and kill the little fat loon.

Your username appropriately describes what happens to a general that gets even close to thinking about taking out fat boy.

That would be YUUUGE! Remember Clinton allowed NK to become nuclear relevant in the first place and Obama was happy as could be to see them exist. Trump negotiates them out of existence and then it is on to Iran.

Every Korean I’ve ever met was smart, hard working and had a fine moral compass.Reunification might go quicker than we think,if the Koreans can come together in good will.
