FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. -- A woman was found near Table Mountain, California on Tuesday morning, and she doesn’t seem to know who she is, the Fresno Police Department said.
“She was wet, she said she had been in the lake, said she needed help and needed to be taken to the hospital,” said Fresno Police.
The woman was found about 3:15 a.m. walking in the middle of the street.
When she was found, her hair was wet, and she was mostly naked. She told officers she had been in the water.
She answers, “I don’t know” to most questions, police said. She has claimed to be a mermaid named “Joanna.”
“We did go through records after fingerprinting her and we still did not come up with her identity,” said Hudson.
She is 5-foot-4, weighs 150 pounds and has webbed feet.
“There are some strange things that happen up here,” said neighbor Karon Renwick. “We’re in the mountains.”

I wonder about these things when the subjects all speak American English:
If she is what she claims to be, how did she learn English?
Did she become a mermaid at some point?
If so, how does one become a mermaid?
There would be a lot of trans-humans who would want to replicate her feat.
What happened to convert her back to human?
Did she have a lot of contact with humans or just one human to learn our conventions?
Are there more of them and the all speak English?
(We’ll have to hunt them down and “examine” them)
Is she really an alien claiming to be a “mermaid?”
Are there local myths about such creatures?
Does she smell fishy?

If she self identifies as a mermaid, then we must accomodate her in the bathroom of her choice. Or perhaps construct a special mermaid-friendly bathroom, complete with its own safe space. ;)
