A group of House Republicans on Thursday introduced the first major bill to fund President Trumps border wall, saying the government could collect billions of dollars by imposing a 2 percent fee on all the money Mexicans and other immigrants send back home. Estimates vary, but remittances from those in the U.S. to their relatives back home could top $130 billion a year. A 2 percent tax could net more than $2 billion a year if it applied to all money regardless of whos sending it. This bill is simple anyone who sends their money to countries that benefit from our porous borders and illegal immigration should be responsible for providing some of the funds needed to complete the wall, Rep. Mike Rogers, Alabama Republican, said in a statement. This bill keeps money in the American economy, and most importantly, it creates a funding stream to build the wall. Mr. Rogers and Rep. Lou Barletta of Pennsylvania are leading the effort. Mr. Trump has vowed to make Mexico foot the bill for his border wall, but Mexican authorities have said they wont play along. Left without a funding source, the president has said American taxpayers will pick up the tab for now, and hell look for ways to soak Mexico in the long run.

all cash confiscated during drug busts should be included as well.
Article 9, clause 5: No tax or duty shall be laid on articles exported from any state.
If I sold a shirt to Mexico it could not be taxed. Is sending just cash considered an exported article or is it somehow excluded. And more importantly, how would any judge in the ninth circus rule on this?
Surprised this hasn’t been done already. Hard to believe the blood sucking government missed this opportunity before.
Table scraps, that is what we are big offered here.
Last night on BOR our AG, Jeff Sessions, said “law abiding” illegal aliens have nothing to fear from ICE. ICE is not looking to deport them as “it is not their(ICE) focus now”.
It would be challenged in court, but the outcome isn’t immediately clear.
Here’s one explanation of the problems:

Nope 2% is the right amount. Mexico wont bitch about it, the senders wont either. Get the wall funded, and you can always up the fee later.
Do not use those term on FR. It is not appropriate and you make us look bad.
Interesting but how does that apply to money forwarded?
Doesn’t it apply to products rather than money?
Mexico is paying for the wall.
Money is a product or commodity like anything else. An opinion from the link:
“Under the Commerce Clause, Congress retains the power to regulate exports, even to the extent of creating embargoes. It may not, however, utilize export taxes as a means of regulation.”
But, have a nice day anyway.
Anybody notice that nobody is going to Europe from North America, it is simply the VAT that keeps them here.
” Article 9, clause 5: No tax or duty shall be laid on articles exported from any state.”
Ever hear of a state user fee? If you buy a tax free item from a state, your state will charge you whatever tax it desires. Nearly every state does it. It’s illegal but the congress and courts won’t stop the practice.
I want the wall built - but a tax disincentive/penalty on illegals bleeding resources from our country is good in its own right.
2% isn’t going to hurt them. Make it 100% and watch them self deport.
Crucify a few at the border and watch the low come to a halt.
Fun with phony numbers. Where is it written that only illegals remit money to Mexico?
Gohmert: Funds Already Appropriated for Border Wall Its Going to Happen

You can add in selling American’s fed up with illegals Wall Bonds, like WW2 War bonds.
Finally something that makes sense and doesn’t hand the bill to US taxpayers for the wall.
