For 21 years, John Croft lived in his Center Point virtually problem free until last summer.
Ive been a prisoner in my house, he said.
Croft, who is 79, says the burglaries began last June. Since then, he says his house has been broken into 13 times.
The most recent case came around 1:15 Wednesday morning
When I heard the noise, that's when they opened the window from the basement coming to the level where the bedrooms are, he recalled.
Jefferson County deputies say there were two men inside. Another, driving the getaway car, waited outside.
I have three bedrooms. I think they checked the other two bedrooms out and then he came over there and said, 'Don't move!' He heard the bed squeak. I was getting my gun. He said, 'Don't move' and he used the N word and I shot, Croft recounted later Wednesday.
I hate that boy dead, but I don't hate I shot him,

I wonder if hed have felt happy to shoot a white kid instead.
I care nothing about the race of criminal thugs that get shot during crimes.
That guy had no business coming into your home. You have no reason to feel bad.
After 13 robberies, what did they expect to find?
Black kids wouldn’t use the “n word” would they as they threaten elderly folks within their own communities?
/s
N word? Neighbor?
Momma will be on the tv soon telling the world how wonderful her precious boy was.
I wonder if the old man had a pension. They kids in the neighborhood knew he had a little cash coming in every month maybe.
Race don’t matter. You do what must be done. None of the corrupt DA, PD staff, News Orgs or others with a bias when someone gets put down for their own evil ever asked ME about how pulling the trigger felt.
Not that I would ever tell the pious and dimwitted lemmings the simple facts of surviving among those that would do evil.
You decide to live and move on with it.
Where are the popos in shutting down the local burglaries?
Perp broke into a home and entered a bedroom with the owner in it. Perp is dead.
He shouldn’t have broke in.
It’s a sort of out of the way area, almost rural but not quite.
Situated between three small cities, but if I’m not mistaken this area is in the county. You can drive two or three miles in eather direction and be on a highway, but it’s not a heavily policed area say like downtown Birmingham.
Social Security money probably gets a robbery every month.
I think he’s scared. Afraid the kids family will come back on him.
>I think hes scared. Afraid the kids family will come back on him.
I agree. This is where it gets complicated.
I’m not sure how to obfuscate the idea of “forcing” the danger to make a predictable move that can be acted upon insuring their demise.
But let me say, it’s possible.
He sounds like he has a conscience. He probably would have wanted to go through life without having to shoot anybody.
“...he says his house has been broken into 13 times.”
I’m a rational man. Rob my house and I’ll become. . . less rational. Rob my house 13 times in a matter of weeks or months and I’ll find you. Oh, I’ll find you.
“Momma will be on the tv soon telling the world how wonderful her precious boy was.”
Well, he was turning his life around. . . going to college. .. and he was an aspiring rapper too. He was good boy.
Something like that?
A co worker used to arrive early each day dressed in ghetto street clothes, then change to normal work clothes.
He lived with his mother on the Southside of Chicago.
Said that if seen in work clothes they would know he had a job and that would invite trouble.
That's exactly what it ended up being for the suspect.
This man has the RIGHT to live his life without fear of crime, punks, and home invaders.
When a man has his home burgled 13 times in a few months and law enforcement are unable to do anything to prevent it or protect him, it is a sign that law and order has broken down.
There was a similar case in Norfolk, England some years back where finally the homeowner shot and killed one of the burglars (this being England, of course, the homeowner, a Mr Martin, went to jail for murder). He had been burgled so often that it had gotten to the stage where the local police wouldn’t bother to respond, even when the homeowner called 999/911 to report persons in his property.
In the US as in the UK it seems the higher authorities no longer have any interest in maintaining law and order. As another posted pointed out the other day, Solzhenitsyn explained this as a deliberate tactic on their part, and he was right.
