Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D.) vetoed a bill on Friday that aimed to allow victims of domestic violence to carry concealed firearms without obtaining a permit.
House Bill 1852 would allow anyone in Virginia who has a protective order and is over 21 to carry a concealed firearm without a permit for up to 45 days after the order is issued. It would then give anyone with an active order an additional 45 days to carry concealed should they apply for a permanent concealed-handgun permit, which can take up to 45 days to process. The person with the protective order would be required to show police the order or permit application and photo ID if stopped.
Governor McAuliffe noted in a statement that the bill bypasses the training and background check requirements associated with obtaining a Virginia concealed handgun permit and said it would make domestic violence situations worse, not better. "The bill perpetuates the dangerous fiction that the victims of domestic violence will be safer by arming themselves," he said. "It would inject firearms into a volatile domestic violence situation, making that situation less safe, not more.

Makes one wonder Governor McAuliffe is an abuser and needs to be afraid.
The Demoncrats strike again. They know they cannot have a one party rule without disarming the all of the people except for the Praetorian Guard of course.
“I prefer to perpetuate the dangerous fiction that the victims of domestic violence will be safer by getting a protective order,”
Is this a form of War on Women!
Enough votes to override??
When you cannot get what you want via the law, you create the Brown Shirts. When they get too powerful, you create the SS.
He's probably a closet Muslim, or a "Pizza Lover".
He'll make honor killings and acid attacks legal next.
That’s a bullcrap law ... Much better to repeal the requirement for a “permit” for everyone. “... Shall not be infringed.”
I understand the sentiment behind the bill, but the proper solution is not to special case protective orders, but to make it easier for everyone to be able to own/carry a firearm.
Call in a drone strike on this Azzhat.
I watch some of these crime shows and those with threatening men drives me nuts. Some poor woman talks about all the things she does to avoid the harassment and I just barely stop myself from screaming “Get a gun, you dummy!!!” But they never do and get shot, beaten, assaulted etc.
We’ve heard almost zero from him for three years. Now that’s he’s decided, in my view, to run for the Dem presidential primary in 2020, he’s showing all his liberal bona fides.
No, they can never override him. The dems hold the party line in the Senate. All he’s done is veto things. He can’t do anything but that. He’s a Looney tune joke of a person.
I think politicians armed security details make them less safe. They should all be removed, you know, from the fictitious myth that armed guards make you safer.
This Mcauliffe is a real POS isn’t he.
Maybe the good folks of the rest of Virginia can let D.C. Attach Beltway Virginia as part of the district.
It is better to be judged by twelve than carried by six. If someone wants to harm you, it’s prudent to be prepared.
We don’t call him McAnus for nothing!
This is one of those times when many individuals will likely ignore the law and choose a means of self-protection. Restraining orders are made of paper.
