Millennials don’t act like adults until they are 30 (or even 40), research finds

Previous generations thought of themselves as adults by the time they were 22 or 23 – but for millennials, that moment comes much, much later.

Many millennials don’t act like adults until 30 – and some don’t live a ‘grown up’ lifestyle until the age of 40.

Many youngsters have delayed moving out of their parents’ home, and put off getting jobs – driven in part by the global economic downturn, but in part by the tolerance of their parents.

David Poltrack of CBS said that while the idea is ‘controversial,’ ‘Their baby boomer parents have really coddled them. They’ve made it too good for them. Why would you leave?’

Poltrack discussed the issue after a three-year research project with Nielsen, aimed at targeting advertising at younger people.

Adults don’t act like adults, either. I see people my age (50) or older walking around in public in pajamas.

what???

um.. surely they meant 16 or YOUNGER!

Most women through history became moms just after their first period, and boys became men not long after.

Yes people don’t act their ages, but many of these guys also don’t consider themselves at reaching the age of adulthood. Worse. It’s snowflakeism.

Another link same story.

Yep, always a treat shopping with the grandson and seeing some 50+ behemoth trundling along and have the grandson holler out ‘look grandpa, spongebob pants’.

Yeah, you're right, much younger than that. I thought I was getting married late at 23, and my wife 21. We waited four years until we saved enough money to make it on our own. Lots of our friends got married by 20.

Amen, from the generation where you could be in basic training 2 days after your 17th birthday and in the rice paddy a month after your 18th. Grows you up real fast.

Times have changed and not for the better - I moved 1000 miles from home at age 17 to work at a truck stop in Alaska - fresh out of high school but no money or grades for college. Had my own place, car and bank account within two months.
That was in 1970, I believe it used to be called becoming a man.

We have not coddled them but we have been threatened with jail for disciplining them.

Ridiculous. There was a time when young people (particularly women) lived at home until they got married

CBS and Mielsen are trying to figure out why their magic demographic doesn’t apply anymore. Millennial s don’t watch television for the most part. They stream stuff on computers Many have jobs. The ones I know may not have moved out but they pay all their bills. ... yes that means rent to the folks too

As usual the msm gets it wrong for the wrong reasons

Culpa, culpa, mea maxima culpa. At age 74 I admit to the horrible sin of walking up 130 feet of driveway, dragging my trash container, in the morning, in my pajamas so the waste disposers may empty it. My 2 big dogs, one a Pitador and the other a Great Dane (both often listed as dangerous dogs, unfit for contact with children) often accompany me. Call the taste police NOW!

Reproductive drives used to cause young people to move out, get married, and start adult lives.

Now multiple members of the opposite sex are willing to have sex without commitment (starting shortly after puberty), and Mom & Dad will allow them to spend the night in their child’s bedroom. We’ve short-circuited the natural process.

Millions of millennials are weak snowflakes. That said, the cost of living is much higher than it was when most FReepers were starting out, and increased regulations make it harder to just get by — how many older people bought health insurance when they were 18? Now it’s mandatory. How many FReepers drove a rustbucket car? Now you can’t get the required .gov sticker if you have a smoking clunker. Millions of these kids weren’t raised right either, which maks it even harder for them.

Kids these days are so coddled and insulated that it takes 30-40 years to get “mugged by reality” so that they see the light.

It likely doesn’t happen until their parents pass on.

So women used to have babies at 12? That isn’t a good thing.
