Millennials don’t act like adults until they are 30 (or even 40), research finds

Previous generations thought of themselves as adults by the time they were 22 or 23 – but for millennials, that moment comes much, much later.

Many millennials don’t act like adults until 30 – and some don’t live a ‘grown up’ lifestyle until the age of 40.

Many youngsters have delayed moving out of their parents’ home, and put off getting jobs – driven in part by the global economic downturn, but in part by the tolerance of their parents.

David Poltrack of CBS said that while the idea is ‘controversial,’ ‘Their baby boomer parents have really coddled them. They’ve made it too good for them. Why would you leave?’

Poltrack discussed the issue after a three-year research project with Nielsen, aimed at targeting advertising at younger people.

I like mid-morning. That’s when the meat and desserts are marked down.

Generalizations about groups of people often don’t apply to most of the people. Plenty of very mature people went through their whole lives renting.

LOL! If I go on Tuesdays, I almost ALWAYS see one of Beau’s old hunting pals. He’s 70 and just LOVES half-price bakery, or anything CHEAP from the deli that they’ve marked down, post-weekend.

Of course the guy is worth MILLIONS...which makes it all the more amusing to me. ;)

(Yes, I know, NOT spending your money is what makes you wealthy!)

When Sam was still around the mantra at Walmart was “Made in the USA”. 1980’s.

I was just in a Verizon store and they were all young men wearing suits. Gosh, do men look good in suits. But it struck me that other than weddings and funerals, people never dress up anymore. What I miss most about being dressed up is you never saw fights or arguments among men who are well dressed. When people dress up, they put on their adult behavior. Being casual all the time apparently also means not being polite very much.

I won’t buy meat unless it’s 1/3 off, and desserts have to be 70% off.

How did you manage to not get drafted?
My draft lottery number was high enough so they didn't get to it that year - it went by a random drawing of birthdays.

The America I started out in as a young guy over forty years ago has vanished. Totally different economy , totally different culture and mind set back then. Kids today wouldn’t have lasted five minutes in 1975. Unless President Trump can turn things around this great nation will devolve into the chaos of a Third World country.

A lot of things will retard the process of maturing. Drug and heavy alcohol abuse comes to mind but for millennial’s I’d lean more toward video games and lack of social interaction due to living life online.

The Millennials started in 1980. The Oldest Gen X were still Sophomores in HS, so you have a lot of late Boomers starting the Millenials. Right off the bat you have about 1/3 of Millenials that wouldn’t even be able to be kids of Gen X (barring the extreme cases of HS pregnancies).

Just look at Obama. Late Boomer with kids that I’m not sure even qualify as Millenials. Gen X definitely contribute to the Millenials, but the majority are Boomers.

Anytime this topic pops up I have to remind myself, a good deal of the military actually putting their lives on the line the past 15 years are likely Millenials.

Amen to that. My job gets 8-10 hours of adult behavior from me (mostly:-). The rest of my time I am going to be polite to others, but I am going to also enjoy myself.

Just the way the lefties like it - keep the kids incompetent and dependent as long as possible so they’ll have to keep looking for someone or something - like maybe big government - to keep looking out for them - why do you think Obamacare makes such a big thing about keeping kids on their parents’ insurance until they’re 26 - and the people eat it up.......

I thought boomers started in 1946 and goes for 20 years. So gen x would have started in 1966. Millennials in 1986. So the youngest gen xer and the oldest millennial would be early 30s. There are 40-45 year olds out there who have not grown up. That’s why I ask what happened to the Genxers. It’s not just the millennials who aren’t acting their age..

Menstruation didn’t always start so early back then... overall health and quality of life has a lot to do with it.
