SEIU’s Henry:Power of families and communities coming together defeats healthcare repeal
Service Employees International Union ^ | March 24, 2017 | SEIU International President Mary Kay Henry

Posted on 03/24/2017 10:29:08 PM PDT by mdittmar

WASHINGTON—SEIU International President Mary Kay Henry issued the following statement after Republicans failed to pass legislation repealing the Affordable Care Act and gutting Medicaid:

“Republican extremists have tried time and again to take away our healthcare but working families and our communities have come out in record numbers to show our opposition to repeal. Today, working people and our communities prevailed. Through collective action we proved that by coming together and raising our voices we can win an America where all families and communities can thrive.

“The House Republican repeal bill was yet another example of this administration and House GOP leadership rigging the rules to advance corporate profits at the expense of America’s hard-working families. This bill would have taken $880 billion from Medicaid and given billions in tax cuts to corporations and the wealthiest in the top two percent.

"SEIU members like Roxana Giron, a home care worker from Las Vegas, led the charge against this bill alongside millions of others. She cares for four veterans, seven days a week, making $10 an hour with no vacation or paid sick time. If this bill had passed, their lives would have been irrevocably changed but because people like Roxana called their members of Congress and spoke out in the streets our healthcare was saved today.

“Today’s failed vote made clear that working families will not stand by while 24 million people lose their healthcare; seniors, people with disabilities and children are thrown off Medicaid; and tens of thousands of healthcare jobs are lost. With one loud voice, America’s working families have said repeal is dead and its time for Congress and the Administration to stop playing games and start focusing on what working people need: good jobs that pay wages on which we can provide for our families, the opportunity to have a voice on the job in a union, and economy and democracy that includes all of us and an America where all work is valued and every community can thrive.”

These people would be the first to give that poor family the stiff-arm if they did not toe the union line.

The key word in there somewhere is collectiveism, the SEIU know collectiveism as communism. Hate to break it to em, the Freedom Caucus isn’t communists.

They CALL it collectivism.

What it really is, is a kind of elite-bossism that is even worse than anything capitalism ever dished out.

So an SEIU member only makes $10 per hour and has no health care, vacation or time off? What has the union ever done for her except collect dues?

Presumably your members will be patriotic and enjoy paying taxes on their health insurance benefits beginning January 2018.

ACHA had pretty much nothing to do with veteran’s health care that I know of.

Got that?

Something that the Republic didn’t have for 240 years - federal mandatory insurance - is now only opposed by “extremists”

We will see. It’s just as likely we guaranteed its funding now. Ands since we are in power we get to vote to fund Obamacare.

If the SEIU wants its obamacare, they can keep their obamacare
Thankfully when it finally implodes, it wont be known as Trumpcare

This didn’t fail because of pressure from the left; it was pressure from the right (who felt it didn’t fix ObamaCare ENOUGH).

This is just spin; ObamaCare won’t see 2018.

Not surprising; lazy, SEIU thugs will lose jobs if the insurance regulators’ role is usurped by interstate commerce where checks and balances will be taken care of by supply and demand, free market economics.

They are simply protecting their jobs. I hate that my taxes pay for these thugs’ jobs.

Say, isn’t the SEIU exempt per some ex president’s EO? Can’t the new President sign a new EO?

The people-supporters of Obamacare did not defeat the bill in the U.S. House of Representatives. It was defeated by the Conservative GOP’s strongest opponents of Obamacare, and did so because to them it left too much of Obamacare in place.
