Trump delivers ultimatum to House GOP: Pass health-care measure on Friday or he’ll move on

President Trump delivered an ultimatum to House Republicans on Thursday night: Vote to approve the measure to overhaul the nation’s health-care system on the House floor Friday, or reject it and the president will move on to his other legislative priorities.

The president signaled that the time for negotiations was over with rank-and-file Republicans who were meeting late at night on Capitol Hill to try to find common ground on the embattled package crafted by House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.).

The move was a high-risk gamble for the president and speaker, who have both invested significant political capital in passing legislation that would rewrite the 2010 Affordable Care Act. For Trump, who campaigned as a skilled negotiator capable of forging a good deal on behalf of Americans, it could either vindicate or undercut one of his signature claims. If the measure fails, it would mean that Obamacare — something that congressional Republicans have railed against for seven years — would remain in place.

“Disastrous #Obamacare has led to higher costs & fewer options. It will only continue to get worse! We must #RepealANDReplace. #PassTheBill,” Trump tweeted from his official White House account as the meeting was wrapping up Thursday night.

I don’t blame Trump either.

They do this all the time, these people who would be our masters and lords.

What they want is guaranteed-at-birth health care, let’s call it....say....Medicaid, just picking a name at random.

The private companies get involved in the form of Medigap policies which will have the second insurer picking up the deductibles and co-pays.

This will eliminate the need for preexisting condition issues.

Of course we don’t want that!

But it’s what the GOPe and the communist Democrats want.

so they can control us.

I think Trump is going to win this battle but I don’t know how or why.

Pass health-care measure on Friday or he’ll move on

He'll move on if paul pelosi lets him...

Of course it's a pretty embarrassing thing for paul ryan.

But this fight is ryan's fault for playing dic tator in the house.

And paul ryan pelosi doesn't speak for me in any way.

This won’t work unless democrats cross over. Will they? I don’t think so, but maybe.

Why would they?

Pass the repeal and Separate replace bill.

If you're going to replace one screwed-up program with another screwed-up program then what does it matter if you do it on one bill or two?

If step 2 succeeds, pass the full repeal.

Big if. Look at the congressional election results for 1994 and 2010 to see what happened to their hold on Congress the last two times presidents tried health care reform. Why expect 2018 to be a different story?

If it doesn’t pass I think the argument for trying Single Payer will be a tidal wave in 2018 and the Republican obstructionist cauci will be responsible. Of course they will be still selling their wares and taking donations.

60 posts.

I wondered how long it would take before someone dumped the “blame” on true conservatives in the Freedom Caucus.

Well, guess what? It’s not blame but CREDIT these conservatives should be taking here. CREDIT for standing firm against ObamaCare 2.0

You are correct friend. The imperial federal monopoly over the American people is just that, control. Control us at every turn. Control health care, control the money supply, control the right to goods and services, thus control us. This is all about control. They HAVE to control us. They cannot let us get outside of NEEDING them. They have to have us DEPENDING upon them for every bite at the food, goods, money, healthcare apples. Without control, what are we, WE ARE FREE PEOPLE. They cannot let us be free. Freedom for us means no control for them. I don't give a good stinking damn what anyone believes, I believe and will to my grave, that this about us losing more and more and more rights and freedoms and them becoming more and more controlling over us.

The Scriptures clearly, without a doubt one bit in my mind, tell us this is the Last Days of human existence on this planet. Jesus Christ is coming to deal with this stinking rotten filthy world. People who refuse to see and believe that do so at their own peril. There are prophesy books in the Scriptures that clearly tell of these days. The Bible predicted the One World Government even before anyone here knew the term. The Bible told us of the coming rulers of this age. This age is here and those rulers are walking around now. It could be a month, year, 10 more years or 50 years, but the time of this world is rapidly ending. Read the books of Ezekiel, Daniel, Zachariah, Matthew Chap 24, Luke Chap 21, and Revelation. They all tell of these times. Even in some of Paul's smaller letters, to the Thessalonians, even Paul, and even Peter in his two letters, tells of the people and times that are upon us. People can laugh and think this is pie in the sky. Do so at your own peril. I have studied my Bible, read commentaries, articles, listened to very good Bible men talk and read their books.

I have never, in my well above 65 plus years on this planet been more convinced in my mind, that we are in the very last of the Last Days of this earth. Horrible times are coming, I pray that each and everyone that does not know and by KNOW, I mean know in their hearts who Jesus Christ was, and what He did on a hill called Calvary. Until one truly recognizes what truly happened on that hill, and what Jesus Christ did for us, the Gospel of Grace that He gave to Paul in 1 Corinthians 15: verses 1-4, the Gospel of Grace, God's FREE offer of Grace, that we ONLY have to believe in our hearts what He did for us, then we are saved. No, the One World Governors will not win. I've read the Book. We win if you are in Jesus Christ. Time is a wasting as they say. Search Him out and you will see. I ran for far too many years to avoid Him. He hounded me at every turn. He made me miserable even when I thought I was in good ways, but I was deadly wrong. I quit running. I found in Him true life. Don't waste your ETERNAL destiny. Search Him out. He is better than free government handouts with only last a day or two.

He's setting Ryan up for failure.

Gad! I hope so. Ryan has a burning ambition to run in 2020. He's going to do everything in his power to hobble Trump in anticipation of that. I hope Trump, Bannon, et al, are working with that in mind and hang the failure to repeal on Ryan. I'd love to see him try to primary Trump with Trump labeling him as a Failed Speaker.

I know Trump plays 4-D chess and is 20 paces ahead of us at all times and sees the future and so forth.

But how can a piece of legislation pass if no one in the party has any real sense what the leader of the party wants.

What does President Trump want out of this bill? Does he want it to pass? Is he playing everyone? Is that ad on Hannity’s show yesterday where Trump is urging us to call Congress a lie?

This is part of the problem with President Trump’s habit of saying pretty much anything at everytime. Obamacare is a disaster. It must be repealed. But we are going to cover everyone. And it’s going to be cheaper and better. And he will not let people die in the street. And we aren’t raising taxes. And we aren’t getting rid of the rules on pre-existing conditions and lifetime maxes and the ability to cover children until they are 26.

This is almost the definition of a promising a law against bad weather....and then asking Paul Ryan to write the damn thing.

And here we are.

I’m a healthcare attorney who specializes in reimbursement. It’s my job to know what this stuff is.

At this moment, a law could be passed in, I dunno, 8 hours.

I’ve never seen it.
I don’t know what it says in theory.
I don’t know if it should be passed or not.
I don’t know if the president really wants it passed or not.

This is a complete mess.

Next stop our economy.

“Conservatives” are the ones who went off the Reservation here. If Ryan implodes, the most “conservative” choice would probably be Meadows who has been in open warfare with Trump for the last week, and who Trump is blaming on Twitter for PP still getting funding for abortions.

If Ryan goes, you need to replace him with a Populist Nationalist so at least the House and White House are aligned politically.

But I don’t know who that would be.

In all honesty, I think Trump would be happier with Pelosi and Schumer in charge, because then he could “make deals.”

Do you honestly think that if Pelosi went to Trump and said, 1. lower Medicare to 59 and dramatically expand Medicaid funding and then Legalize all the Dreamers..... and we will scrap the ACA, give you your wall, AND give you your infrastructure bill, he says no?

I honestly think this is where we are heading. Pelosi and Schumer are going to cut the ultimate deal with Trump within the next year on everything.

I honestly think Pelosi is already putting a plan in motion.

If and when this implodes, Trump is going to turn on both Ryan and the Freedom Caucus. And that point, his entire agenda is at risk.

Why would the Freedom Caucus support an infrastructure bill that they hate now?

Enter Pelosi.

She’ll give Trump some kind of “deal” on Healthcare that probably is just an expansion of Medicaid or Medicare and some kind of deal on Dreamers and in return, he gets his infrastructure package and his wall.

President Trump wants to tout deals. The Republicans have totally failed him. Pelosi and Schumer can offer him nearly everything he truly wants - which is “things.”

If President Trump can give a speech in front of a wall and cut a ribbon at a brand new JFK, do you really think he’ll care if the age for Medicare eligibility changes to 59.

Trump should move on and come back to this with fresh eyes... Ryan invited the same old same old to feed him information rather than listening to the people.

This bill is written by insurance execs, doctors, and hospital lobbyist. The same groups that are ripping off the American people now. Oh, and government bureaucrats... who want bigger offices and larger staffs. Also, like 'comprehensive immigration reform' which allowed every scammer to bury their evil in the mass of the massive bill - 'health-care' is doing the same. Maybe SMALLER BILLS TARGETED TO DEAL WITH ISSUES THAT MATTER TO TAXPAYERS WOULD BE BETTER.

They think it’s a better plan?

LOL! No, really?

They want to screw freedom caucus?

The enemy of their enemy is not their friend. Not in this case, and they know it.

They know it’s a bad plan and want republicans to own it?

The Republicans already own it, and have since January 20th. No matter what happens the Democrats will hang the blame for it on the GOP.
