For years, lobbies have contributed billions to candidates to buy influence, those billions were used to purchase campaign ads which made the media happy, once elected lobbies made sure their politicians stayed bought assuring billions of taxpayer money made its way into their coffers and politicians were given their share to keep them quiet
Along comes a man who can’t be bought, ran a campaign without their billions and it flat out terrifies them. They had a nice little racket going

I purchased a framed quote of Thomas Jefferson’s at Monticello gift shop which says that revolutions are necessary from time to time when the political class no longer represents the will of the people. Don’t have the quote in front of me. A historian friend mentioned that Jefferson was hypocritical in the case of the French Revolution, I believe.
