“Rand Paul is trying to be relevant. Ted Cruz thinks he is going to run for President in four years by undermining Trump and purposely undermining the economic rally.”

Don’t know what you are smoking, but it definitely is wacky.

“Ted Cruz is an assh8le and will never be elected”

That will be up to the Texas voters. Do you prefer John Cornyn 2.0 or Kay Bailey Hutchinson 2.0?

I agree with you as long as you meant Rand Paul not Paul Ryan.

Free Market solutions are required and are not sufficiently in this bill.

The GOPE let the insurance companies write this and Trump the dealmaker is not able tonwalk away from this bad deal like he could in business world.

Put the free market fixes in and quit playing math games to score it for 6 senators......

They left in a bunch if Obamacare taxes so they could call ut “revenue neutral” 10 years out....quit playing games and do the correct thing 1st time ans quit this 3 step b.s..

I thought the Dow was 14,000 when Trump came in, now over 20,000. Don’t you mean the Dow is up 6,000?

And then the Dems get to hit every news show talking about how the GOP plan caused all the problems because Obamacare was never let implode. They get to write the narrative because people have short memories. Repeal and reform not replace!

Repeal is the only thing to do. This baloney about 60 votes to repeal is just that. If the Republicans really wanted Obamacare gone they would as a man stand up and take up Trump’s refrain that it’s a disaster. Instead most of them just leave Trump to twist in the wind. If they stood up they would get the 60 votes plus. They don’t even need that...they can change the stinking rule to whatever they want and make it a 50 plus vote.

The most idiotic, nonsensical post I have seen at FR for a long time. Ryancare is rubbish. Period. It needs a be killed. Ted Cruz and Paul Ryan are heroes for fighting against Ryancare.

So what's their alternative that has any chance of passing the senate?

Sounds like an interesting compromise but I would hesitate to offer Medicaid for “all” without a means test. If the world were filled with stand up types its a great plan. The world however is filled with moochers.

Your suggestions are a great step off point!

So you’re plan is to let everything tank and then run on “We told you so” next time? Yea, that should bring the results you want. Democrats will get in and Trump WILL make a deal with them and I doubt it’ll be as “right” as the current plan being bandied about. Of course, at that time all the “True Conservatives” will be yelling and screaming without any real power to do anything (just how they like it). I wonder how many on this site will remember this bill when that happens and say, “We should have just passed ‘RyanCare’. If The Democrats would promise not to spend 2 years doing the “impeach him” dance I would love to see that happen just to hear all the reactions to the deals being made.

Sounds like journalistic embellishment to a remark made in humor. At least that is how Mark Meadors described it, and after all, he was there, and it was said to him personally. He took absolutely no offense, and said so to reporters.

if the GOP is afraid to “own” anything then why exactly do they want to be in power? Oh yea, they tried to tank the election and stumbled into a win and now they are out of their depths. Funny to watch in a sense.

You have no idea who the Republicans are if you think they have even 50 votes for a straight up repeal. It’s not going to happen. Susan Collins is NOT going to vote to repeal (cutting medicare expansion) and neither is the chick in Alaska. That’s not a real option at all. This talk about needing 60 votes is hog wash because they can change the rules if they really want to (or bypass it with Pence) but the truth is they don’t even have 50 so may as well give themselves cover

They don’t have one. That’s the beauty of being a Senator, you get a nice pay check, get to talk a lot and never have to actually accomplish anything. It’s better when you’re the opposition party because you get to pretend that if only you had some power you would fix things. They don’t know how to be leaders.

The default is Obamacare, which is not working, is unpopular, leaves millions without insurance and is in a financial death spiral.

The big problem is the financial death spiral that Obamacare has put individuals and families into, with bizarrely expensive coverage that continues to increase in cost, for high deductible policies that are of little practical value other than for major medical or catastrophic care.

Solve that problem and the rest is philosophical. A means tested, tiered "contribution" to Medicaid or Medicare for indigent and poor people, plus preexisting conditions, would take care of one area causing ballooning premiums. Getting illegal aliens off of it would take care of another.

I don't want to see Congress or Federal government employees as a whole exempting themselves from their wonderful largesse this time, either. Good enough for the People is good enough for public servants.

RE:”It was a joke”

How about this one?

President Trump claimed Friday that House conservatives previously opposed to ObamaCare replacement legislation moving through the chamber are now on board after “changes” were made – an assertion that could be put to the test as early as next week.
The president voiced confidence during a meeting with members of the conservative Republican Study Committee.
“We are doing some incredible things … I am 100 percent behind this,” Trump said, before looking around the room and saying: “All of these no’s, or potential no’s, are all yes’es. Every single person sitting in this room is now a yes.”

How about what? I replied that it was a joke, that he was “coming after” anyone voting against it, and it was.
