LOS ANGELES — Each year, the University of Southern California brings delegations from Africa to meet with business leaders, government officials and others in the U.S. But this year, the African summit has no Africans. All were denied visas.

Visa issues are not uncommon for people traveling from African nations. During her prior three summits, Mary Flowers saw a high percentage of her attendees at the African Global Economic and Development Summit, unable to attain visas.

"Usually we get 40 percent that get rejected but the others come," said Flowers, chair of the African Global Economic and Development Summit. "This year it was 100 percent. Every delegation.

Why doesn’t the university travel to Africa...if they are so concerned?

They tend to come and not leave. Getting visas for them should be hard.

“Getting visas for them should be hard.”

Yeah, they should have to climb a 100’ ( limbless) tree...on top of a mountain...summit.

I’d call those visa denials a big win for America.

Total bull.

There are only 6 countries on Trump’s travel ban and only a couple are even in Africa

Libya, Syria, Afghanistan, Iran, Yemen are not African and Muslim Sudan is more Middle East than African.

They only true African nation on the list is Somalia and a travel ban on Somalia is a good idea regardless.

Any Africans denied visas have a problem not related to the terror ban , possibly terrorism or human rights problem that bars them from a visa.

"Usually we get 40 percent that get rejected but the others come," said Flowers, chair of the African Global Economic and Development Summit. "This year it was 100 percent. Every delegation. And it was sad to see, because these people were so disheartened."

Flowers estimated that she lost about 100 attendees, including speakers and government officials. The countries affected included Sierra Leone, Guinea, Ghana, Nigeria, Ethiopia and South Africa.

The ban list is "citizens from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen from entering the United States for 90 days."

No. Match.

Gosh, that’s a shame. /s

I’d like to know just how many people from Africa attended in the past, where they were from, did they buy or use their return ticket, etc.

And I am so sick and tired of these sob stories about the heartbroken people from all over the Earth who want to come to the US but are afraid because of our “meanie” president.

Get over it, people. America belongs to America and her citizens.

Fake News fabricated by Voice of America shills to denigrate legacy America.

Headline should read: Africa Trade Meeting Has No African Racketeers With Terrorist Connections, After US Visa Denials

USC had a 40% rejection rate with Unamerican Obama calling the shots. Any truly American screening process would have eliminated 100% of 'em for more than a decade.

VOA is now excrement, I remember when they were American.

Does that mean Nigerian internet entrepreneurs (I am Prince Ibangu of the Wateva tribe. Wire $500,000 to my Zurich account...) will be excluded again?

The communist menace they were designed to counter is dead. If they can't affirm American policy in the current age it's possible VOA needs the NPR treatment.

VOA ? This proves this agency which I believe is an adjunct of the State Department needs a cleaning. Isn’t Flowers a far lefty “congressperson” (s)? There us no attempt to explain why that position was taken.
