Tillerson refuses to rule out nuclearization of Asian allies to keep North Korea in check
KOREAN DEMILITARIZED ZONE EXCLUSIVE: Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, in an exclusive interview with Fox News, refused to rule out increased weaponization and even nuclearization of Americas East Asian allies to deter North Korean aggression.
Were exchanging views, Tillerson said, while standing a few feet within what is technically North Korean territory inside what is known as the Joint Security Area.
Nothing has been taken off the table, he said, when asked whether he would rule out nuclearization of the peninsula, during the interview with Fox News.
Tillerson, whos called the past 20 years of diplomacy toward North Korea a failure, has said the world needs a new strategy.
Let me be very clear: the policy of strategic patience has ended, said Tillerson in a later press availability in Seoul with South Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se.
"If they elevate the threat of their weapons program to a level we believe requires action that option is on the table," Tillerson also said, adding the U.S. wants to avoid military conflict and hopes other measures convince North Korea to suspend its weapons programs.
President Trump, bolstering his secretary of states comments, tweeted Friday morning that North Korea is behaving very badly.

P!
Tillerson should tell China, “Look at the Nork threat. We can’t hold Japan and South Korea back.”
Didn’t Obama put a bunch of nukes in Turkey? Where was the outrage over that?
If Japan decided to go nuclear on Monday they’d have a dozen weapons by Friday afternoon. The following Wednesday a Hello Kitty version would be available.
It’s a very good place to start ,LOL
‘Refusing’ to rule out presupposes he was actually ‘asked’ a concise question about ‘nuclearization.’
This is not patently clear from the blurb.
IMO, if the US gave Israel the fissile material for their first bomb, the Japanese weren’t far behind.
South Korea and Japan have been 6mo. to a year from building nuclear weapons for the last 30+ years. They are just one political decision from starting that process. I see no upside to the US taking a position on that policy decision by their respective governments.
Kim U-fat might end up Kim U-glow
We’ve made a good faith effort to negotiate this thing to a peaceful conclusion. It didn’t work. Just remove Kim, hang the Generals and give NK back to Korea.
They’d probably have a few dozen anime versions along with Hello Kitty.
I’m sure you know a vastly more about South Korea’s political situation than I, but it seems unstable.
The Japanese have a huge stockpile of their own plutonium from their reactors.

As Japan and Korea in the north borders on Russia, the Russians might consider the strategic balance there greatly upset especially if any new area nukes have the potential of being mass produced.
As the situation in Eastern Europe keeps deteriorating, along with China they might be more likely to launch first before they could be overwhelmed in a future escalating situation with Washington.
Unlike during the first cold war, Russia still has a shelter system for its general population and not just for the elite as in the US. Russia has also apparently radiation enhanced at least part of their nuclear arsenal so doesn’t have to solely depend on targeting nuclear power plants to ensure a large area is uninhabitable for a very long time.
Beyond what short term protection a sheltering system might provide for lord or peasant, it seems that the annihilation fear expressed in the book and movie “On the Beach” might be at last be able to come true at least for much of the Northern Hemisphere.
The Japanese could have a full blown nuclear arsenal with delivery system in about a week. If they would choose to do so. (The probably already have it but unannounced!)
