Donald Trump took on Sen. John McCain's status as a war hero and won the GOP nomination anyway.

Spicer took an extraordinary position Wednesday, saying anyone who questioned the success of the raid in Yemen that led to the death of a Navy SEAL was doing a disservice to the SEAL's memory. The target was McCain.

I had no idea McStain was a POW during Vietnam. I knew he crash landed on the USS Forestfire and destroyed a dozen planes and something like 100 guys died - but that’s all I knew- WOW!

Agreed. Just another indication that he is senile.

There have been DOZENS of McCain scandals, not the least of which was the “Keating Five” (1980–1989, google it), involving the failure of Lincoln Savings and Loan, which led to Charles Keating (R) donating to the campaigns of five Senators for help. Keating served 42 months in prison. The five were investigated by the Senate Ethics Committee which found that:

Alan Cranston Senator (D-CA) reprimanded
Dennis DeConcini Senator (D-AZ) acted improperly
Don Riegle Senator (D-MI) acted improperly
John Glenn Senator (D-OH) used poor judgment
John McCain Senator (R-AZ) used poor judgment

Of all those, only McCain remains in office. And he was the only Republican among Democrats.

Sean Spicer hardly “ scathed” the senile old Mccain
In verbal battles John fights like a girl
Say something snotty and walk away
McCain while overseas called the Yemen mission a failure before the real hero’s coffin even reached the grieving widow
When Trump addressed the success of the mission at his State speech you could see that poor woman finally cave to her sense of relief and love for her husband

Gotta hand it to the Freeper who had this classic comment on McCain (I paraphrase here):

"Thank God he was captured before the Navy ran out of airplanes. Having lost five aircraft already, he'll be remembered as the first Soviet ace of the Cold War.

LMAO.

“Donald Trump took on Sen. John McCain’s status as a war hero and won the GOP nomination anyway.”

The “SONGBIRD of the Hanoi Hilton” according to many residents thereof while there !! Had he not been the son of a U.S.Navy Admiral , he’d been dead long ago...

I don’t see how that is some kind of “brutal rejoinder” by McCain. But this is the Washington Post.

Actually, he didn’t crash on the Forrestal, and was only a peripheral victim of the accident that took the lives of all those men.

It is irrelevant though, because he is still a scumbag.

John McCain: Typical military vet who thinks he’s then qualified for politics and using his experiences (whatever they might be) as proof that he’s got what it takes.

He’s been insane for quite some time.

Yea and how he didn’t get taken out by the Keating scandal is one for the books. There is a new sheriff in town and McLame seems to be hell bent on really pissing him off.

Agree. WaPo and McCain - a perfect pairing with whine.
He was a war casualty, not a hero.
That the mentally unbalanced McCain has remained in our Senate this long is an American disgrace.

Benedict Arnold was a true war hero. Arnold did more for this country than McCain ever did. Unfortunately, after their good service, both McCain and Benedict Arnold became traitors.

The only person of the fire immediately transferred to Oriskany. It’s good to be the son of an admiral.

McCain is one of those guys who would throw his own mother over the side if he thought it would get him something. He’s a pitiful, senile old man and a big problem for the GOP,
