University of Arizona wants to maximize free speech in the classroom
The correct way to tell a classmate he said something offensive is to say ouch, and his correct response, oops.
The University of Arizonas College of Humanities is offering such suggestions to faculty in a new 20-page handbook titled Diversity and Inclusiveness in the Classroom, credited to Vice Provost for Inclusive Excellence Jesús Treviño.

I have no words....
That would really get people’s attention.
“Speak English” is offensive, but “Speak Spanish” is not. Political Correctness is everything it tries not to be.
As a University of Arizona alumnus, this is really embarrassing. I gave up my membership in the Alumni Association about 15 years ago when the U of A made a hard turn to port.
Why not just wear big signs saying I’m vewy vewy weak; Pwease dont hut me.
And I will say “FU” when you yell “ouch”
Reminds me a lot of FreeRepublic. There are endless reasons to go silent at universities, at McDonald’s, and here.
You say “Ouch” and I am going to ask if your brain cell exploded.
The proper response to “Ouch!” is “Suck it up!”
Being personally offended by the word ‘oops’, I foresee an endless loop occurring.
I was not consulted for this...fake news.
-Ouch
Spending $60k a year to learn to be a victim??? Can’t you just learn that in preschool and be done?
Oh the irony. I recall a colleague who was always controlling everyone around her by acting emotionally wounded by brutish or unthinking behavior of others....all the time. I talked with her exasperated boyfriend. I likened her behavior to someone saying “OUCH” in a pained voice and the rest of us automatically retreating in apology because it happened too fast for us to ascertain how we had wounded her and we would be gracious first and foremost; we never meant to harm anyone. Her exhausted boyfriend was tired of trying to find the magic formula of interaction that did NOT “hurt” her feelings. I became exhausted with constantly flinching in apology whenever she used her social version of “ouch.”
The college wants “ouch” because we humans are trained to retreat and check for injuries before we have time to find out what’s wrong (get off their foot first, look around and see if they are hurt). The university wants people to simply accept that anyone who says “ouch” is correct and “right” and all others are wrong and must admit error in a heartbeat “oops.” Very comfortable arrangement, for the person who wants to dominate others.
What Trump said: PUSSIES!
What a bunch of fools. The real world doesn’t work like this.
Ouch!!! Taxpayers are paying him $214,000.00 to teach our kids to say “Ouch!” It hurts.
