U.S. Airlines Flee Castro's Island Hellhole

Which is a fancy way of saying what's really going on - Cuba is a tourist hellhole. The service stinks, the amenities are gross, the place is thick with thieves and woman-gropers, the cost is high and the alternatives are out there, In fact, the Caribbean is loaded with pleasant, accommodating destinations well worth a tourist's dollar for a vacation. Taking a vacation at a communist military-run resort really falls more into the Gulag category.

How is this for tourist hell? Observers noticed Cuban customs officials rummaging through tourist luggage and taking what they wanted. When they complained, they were thrown in jail. Some tourist operation they've got there, In fact, the place is a security risk because no professional or U.S. or U.S.-standard officials are involved. Mangy street dogs are what pass for security dogs in Havana. You can expect cockroaches in your breakfast cereal and tourist bulletin boards such as this one say bring your own toilet paper.

Cuba's officials aren't even interested in making their foreign investors happy. American businesses have but one purpose, according to reports, that is to serve through their presence in Havana as bait to attract other sucker businesses, the better to rob them all.

As I was reading this, all I could think of is this is the utopia that Zero wanted to turn the US into.

I have some liberal relatives who went there for a week, as soon as 0bama started promoting it. That was back when Cuba was trying to put on a good face to attract visitors. Now, not so much, it seems.

You notice that the Lyin’ King and his stout frau didn’t go to Havana to vacay after Pres. Trump’s inauguration.

A colleague of mine, a good NYC liberal, returned recently from a brief visit to Cuba.

When asked about his trip his reply was: "Communism doesn't work."

We’ve been telling them, (good liberals), that for a long, long time.

Heard a radio spot just last week advertising Cuba cruises out of Tampa.

Idea - let's emulate the Chinese and not get off the boat. That'll show 'em.

I went there in 2004. It was a complete mess. I am glad, though, that they lifted the travel ban, and I would encourage Americans to go there solely for the reason to see for themselves what a disaster it is so they can stop romanticizing it.

I have a communist cousin there, who is a Lt. Col in the Interior Ministry. He is die hard. He asked “What do you think of our revolution” and I told him “Herbert, it speaks for itself” as we drove past ruins.

Watched a show on Food Channel about Cuba. Restaurants can't expand. Only one or two allowed per owner. Progress/growth stymied at every turn.

But I did love the '57 Chevys...

I’ve read several trip reports, no have included raving recommendations.

What I’ve read can be summed up as

-Crappy airport
-Crappy hotels
-Overpriced internet
-Crappy food
-Crappy transportation
-Surly staff everywhere

These reports were from people who can best be considered hyper-travelers and are used to going off the beaten path.

Nah, I’m looking forward to my next trip to Aruba.
