Defense Secretary Mattis: 'Climate change' is a national security threat
Washington Examiner ^ | 03/15/2017 | Paul Bedard

In a clash with President Trump's environmental team, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis has declared that climate change is a threat to national security and one military planners must consider in drawing up strategies.

According to a report from ProPublica, Mattis told Democratic senators that climate change is real and "can be a driver of instability."

His position, at odds with President Trump and his Environmental Protection Agency chief, came in answers to questions from senators following his confirmation hearing. They were released to ProPublica which reached out to the White House and Pentagon for comment without success.

The issue of global warming and climate change flashed in the past week when EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt questioned the impact of man on the environment.

When asked about the impact of carbon dioxide, he said, "I think that measuring with precision human activity on the climate is something very challenging to do and there's tremendous disagreement about the degree of impact, so no, I would not agree that it's a primary contributor to the global warming that we see." He added, "We need to continue the debate and continue the review and the analysis."

In spite of all the fake news items like this one. Trump is doing okay with his voters!

More Americans approve of the job Donald Trump is doing as president and of the direction the country is headed, according to Morning Consult/POLITICO surveys conducted over the past six weeks.

The most recent poll, conducted March 9-13, found that 52 percent of Americans approve of Trump’s job performance, compared with a 49 percent approval rating shortly after Inauguration Day. This month’s survey found that 43 percent of respondents do not approve of the president’s job performance.

When asked about the direction of the country, 46 percent of Americans said they believe the country is on the right track, up 4 points since a late January poll and up 17 points since immediately after Election Day, when just 29 percent of voters felt the same way. Still, 54 percent of voters said the country is on the wrong track, 4 percentage points lower than immediately after Trump took office.

Despite several public controversies, the two measurements have remained relatively steady, and almost all of the movement has been in Trump’s direction among all voters.

Much of the gains track with positive economic indicators during his first few weeks in office, including a strong jobs report and stock market gains. The S&P 500 Index is up more than 100 points since Trump’s inauguration, and on Friday the White House took a victory lap after government figures showed a gain of 235,000 jobs during his first full month in office.

The polls also found that Americans are more likely to trust the Republican Party to handle economic issues than the Democrats. Forty-nine percent said they trust congressional Republicans to handle the economy over Democrats, and 50 percent said the same about handling jobs. Three in 10 voters, a plurality, said the economy is the top issue on their mind.

Trump’s lone dip in job approval came in early February following the initial rollout of his controversial executive order banning citizens from seven predominantly Muslim countries from traveling to the United States. Last week, Trump signed a similar executive order designed to withstand a potential court challenge. Fifty-six percent of registered voters support the new order, compare with 55 percent who supported the first travel ban, which was blocked by a federal judge.

Eighty-four 84 percent of Trump supporters back the latest ban, and their optimism for the direction of the country has also grown, from 69 percent to 78 percent, during the president’s first weeks in office. Twenty-two percent of Trump voters said America is still on the wrong track.

Trump’s supporters approve just as strongly of his job performance now (92 percent) as they did when he took office (91 percent). The share of Trump voters disapproving of his work as president has risen from 3 percent to 6 percent.

The national online survey polled 1,983 registered voters from March 9-13. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.

Excellent reply!

Actually, the climate IS changing, and it really is something the military needs to take into consideration.

I don’t see him discussing that climate change is man-made.

The climate is ALWAYS changing. If this is going to be an abnormally wet or snowy year in a certain area that could affect our security, the military should consider the ramifications.

Like if you plan military ops in the Sahara there has been this change:

So we have a liberal Democrat-type, at least, Sec. of State, and an actual Obama Democrat liberal as Trump’s National Economic Advisor:

“Cohn is a registered Democrat and one-time supporter of President Obama. He has advocated free trade, and other so-called globalist remedies to economic problems and largely supported Obama’s domestic policy agenda, which included higher taxes, universal health coverage and a pathway to citizenship for some illegal immigrants.

Cohn broke with the former president later in his tenure but only after the Obama administration implemented a series of Wall Street reforms that squeezed Goldman’s profits.”

Ice ages are an anomaly for the Earth. We're in the middle of an ice age which means the normal Temperature of the earth is about 10 deg C warmer then today

OK, we have a problem. First, Mattis nominates pro-Muslim-Brotherhood moonbat chick Patterson, and now he is blathering about Gorebull warming?

I regret Trump ever nominated this guy. Time for a change of Sec Defense. Get us a Marine Lt Col, or even a Gunny. He'd be better than this stuffed-shirt politically-correct mannikin.

Unless there is something missing from this story or it is fake, then this is what DJT losing looks like. Just a break from all that tiresome winning or the beginning of a trend?

Did anyone on here read this far into this:

When asked about the impact of carbon dioxide, he said, "I think that measuring with precision human activity on the climate is something very challenging to do and there's tremendous disagreement about the degree of impact, so no, I would not agree that it's a primary contributor to the global warming that we see." He added, "We need to continue the debate and continue the review and the analysis."

Sounds to me like he did what he had to do to get through the confirmation. I'm not ready to shun him just yet based on the MSM's twisting of his words... let's see how he performs in the actual job.
