President Trumps budget proposal this week would shake the federal government to its core if enacted, culling back numerous programs and expediting a historic contraction of the federal workforce.
This would be the first time the government has executed cuts of this magnitude and all at once since the drawdown following World War II, economists and budget analysts said.
The spending budget Trump is set to release Thursday will offer the clearest snapshot of his vision for the size and role of government. Aides say that the president sees a new Washington emerging from the budget process, one that prioritizes the military and homeland security while slashing many other areas,
including housing, foreign assistance, environmental programs, public broadcasting and research. Simply put, government would be smaller and less involved in regulating life in America, with private companies and states playing a much bigger role.
Mick Mulvaney, head of the Office of Management and Budget, said on Hugh Hewitts radio program last week that it was important for the administration to change how Washington thinks.

I’m certain Ryan, McConnell and the GOP will fight him on this, as well.

A good time to hand out permanent furloughs?
The Democrats are threatening to shut down the govt.
“Non-essential” federal workers sitting at home getting paid?
Good luck and goodbye. Do it on your own dime.
Sounds good to me.
Trump. The one we ve been waiting for. Put Washington in it’s place !
ANY contraction of the Federal work force would be historic.
He realizes, from experience, that payroll is one of the biggest expenses.
Time to invoke the Reid Rule (formerly known as the Nuclear Option) for all filibusters.
Hypothetically speaking: Congress approves spending and the President implements that spending. Is the President required to spend? Can he not choose to spend less and downsize the Federal Bureaucracy as he sees fit?
Waiting for the Dems to roll out the “Draconian Cuts” bs....
If liberals are sent home to San Francisco or where ever - I don't care what they think. Just as long as they're NOT in DC making policy.
Government Worker = Oxymoron
Reminds me of the reply I would give when someone would ask “How many people work for your company” (a defense contractor), I would say “About Half”.
The US Government is probably about 25%. But it fluctuates greatly, the actual Military (not the civilians) I would say 80-90%, the Post Office maybe 10%.
