The Trump administration is expected to start rolling back tough limits on carbon pollution from cars and trucks this week, and may be considering a plan to revoke Californias authority to set its own pollution standards for vehicles, a linchpin of the states effort to battle climate change.
Environmental Protection Agency chief Scott Pruitt is pushing the move to weaken emissions standards, siding with auto manufacturers that argue vehicle fuel efficiency standards put in place by the Obama administration will cost billions of dollars. On Thursday, he said he would move very, very soon to roll them back.
If that happens, California will probably exercise its special authority, known as a waiver, to keep the current vehicle emissions standards in place, laying the groundwork for an extraordinary tug-of-war between the state and the federal EPA.

“I build my own cars.”
And you can also build your own guns.
As do I, but they are still coming for you.
Who’s air is it anyway? :P
I recognize a local interest in reducing smog, etc. from certain environmental impact regions. As a believer in states rights and self-determination, I’d allow California to set the environmental regs they wish but those stop at the state border. Nevada, Arizona, Oregon, etc. have no requirement to follow them.
When Trump’s economic plans take effect, CA will be left in the dust while the rest of the country is forging ahead.
We used to be the Golden State. Soon we will be Left-Behind State.
“Like our current approved handgun list, I hope that auto mfrs, like many of the HG makers, refuse to make CA specific vehicle”
I don’t think it would go that way CA is to way big of a market if CA pushes this l don’t know how it plays out the waiver should have been pulled by now, they will use it to hold the market hostage. The time is now to take them on and end thier tyranny of the market.
In the early 70s they touted the car that the contestant won had "California emissions".
I didn't know what that meant.
I just saw a 1974 Vega.
Some "prize".
California’s ever changing emission standards have also destroyed plenty of small businesses. I remember several years ago, small shops had to struggle to afford new testing equipment when they changed the program—the machines those days were in the $50-100K range.
Just about the time the shop owners were able to secure financing on the new equipment, Sacramento changed its mind again. So the small business owners were left up to their alligators in debt for nothing.
Normally, I do not want the feds interfering with state business. But, California has become a rogue state, engaging in unconstitutional practices and needs to be brought to heel.
So, their “religion” IS Gaia, the “revolution”, and their Mexican-atheist-socialist future.
Please stop trying to use science, logic, reason, common sense, historical records or Christian charity when evaluating California politicians or policy.
I watched all that happen, too.
So you remember insanity? Wasn’t it about treadmill testing?
Do you pour and machine your own castings, mill your gears, build & program your ECU, etc?
Or do you assemble differentials, gearboxes, crate engines which have been manufactured by others for production or previous production cars, etc. on a ladder frame you've welded in your shop?
EPA, CARB and NHTSA mandated designs greatly affect the types of components available to the backyard builder/hot rodder/kit builder.
California’s relevance is diminishing before our very eyes.
Children could do better leading my state, provided they hadn’t spent years being indoctrinated by Leftists.
It would be laughable if it weren’t so serious.
You’re right, of course. You can’t apply logic liberals. It frightens them and they lash out.
The basic principles of logic will never fit a liberal argument anyway.
Just keep your big SUV’s. People with RV trailers are going to pay big bucks for them in the future.
I have a 2013 Mustang that I intend to re-engine as necessary until I die.
Time to IMPEACH Jerry MOONBEAM Brown. Bad laws, bad leadership. Oh Ya, we need the “Meth Express” excuse me the Bullet Train.
IOW, CA needs the money from all of the clean air fees, and the Feds are threatening their gravy train.
I’d love to see the manufacturers refuse to comply with CA specific rules. We could visit in a few years and CA highways would look like the streets of Cuba with all of the old model vehicles kept running.
I'm not quite that advanced although I have dabbled in all those tings.

Yep, that's pretty much the point of this thread. I purchase, scrounge, and barter for what I want and pay little attention to what the alphabets bark about. As a consequence my machines are, to varying degrees, outlaw. I'm fine with that. I don't have that many years left and I've decided that life is too short to subordinate myself to leftists. F 'em.
