Vanity: What to do when your nation is drowning in debt and about to go under for good
March 11, 2017 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 03/11/2017 1:06:10 PM PST by Jim Robinson

Our big spending national government—whether Republican, Democrat or whatever—ran up a national debt approaching ten trillion dollars during the 220 and some odd years prior to Obama taking office. During Obama’s 8 year term, our big spending government nearly doubled that debt. No one’s fault (cough, cough), but we and our posterity are now staring at an unbelievable, unmanageable, unsustainable, unpayable mountain of twenty trillion dollars in accumulated debt with no let up in sight! In fact they want to continue the wholesale printing and spending of money we don’t have and they’re planning on raising the debt ceiling to do it.

What happened to our founders concept of LIMITED government?

Someone please take the bill writing, treaty making, money printing and check signing machines away from these blithering idiots and cut up their credit cards!!

And that’s precisely why we the fed-up people elected Republican majorities in the house, senate and the majority of our local and state governments and elected Donald J (You’re Fired) Trump to the presidency!

Unless we want to see our economy and our nation crash and burn, we must stop the fiscal insanity! NOW!

Emergency FULL STOP and reverse course!

We are on the path to destruction on a biblical scale, but God has given us one more chance. And I sincerely believe that this is our last chance. We have one shot to get it right and if we fail, our nation will be following Europe and the rest of the world down the tubes. Global depression. Nothing but scorched earth and desolation for all of western civilization. Don’t think it can’t happen. God has a history of proving you wrong.

We have no choice but to immediately stop the spending. I’m very sorry Mr. President, but the federal government is broke and cannot “take care” of the medical problems for all the people. Having the federal government take care of the people is what got us where we are. The tenth amendment clearly reserves “taking care of the people” to the states AND the people themselves. It’s not your job!

If Mr Ryan and Mr McConnell, et al, send you a bill that fails to repeal every word of the unconstitutional ObamaCare federal health care power grab and or if the replacement plan continues even one iota of federal mandate or control over health care, then it must be vetoed and sent back. We must repeal every word of it as you and every Republican pledged to do during the primaries. Nothing less than full repeal and return to free markets will suffice. As you have stated many times, Obamacare will implode and self-destruct on its own. And so will RYANcare. It’s unworkable, unsustainable and unconstitutional. If the congress fails to repeal it, we must let it die on its own. Meanwhile, we can strip it where we can, cut funding where we can, eliminate roadblocks to free market solutions where we can and let the states take over where we can as the founders intended.

Mr. President, you are the greatest negotiator in the world and you have our full and devoted attention. The press, the people and the entire world listens intently to your every speech and tweet. We are crying for government restraint and a return to fiscal and social sanity. Please use your God-given talents to sell the naysayers in the media and big government circles (and us) that by cutting government, cutting regulations, repealing ObamaCare, cutting spending, cutting taxes, securing the borders, securing the nation, making better treaties and trade deals, etc, will improve the economy, improve conditions for economic investment and jobs, will lift all boats and will bring more money into the treasury and will help us to begin reducing the debt for a change, Oh, and of course, that drilling, mining and manufacturing will put us back on the path to national prosperity and security.

Your passion and devotion to God and country coupled with your commonsense solutions, grasp on sound financial and economic principles, salesmanship and God-given natural communications talents and ability to bypass the media got you elected.

Please do not stop campaigning and please do not stop convincing your fellow Americans that freedom is far superior to godless socialism and please keep your eye on the prize. Do not allow Ryan, McConnell, the GOPe, the democrats or the media or anyone else sway or distract you from the path you are on. You have been on track for what we the people have been starving for ever since the day you came down that escalator.

Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!

Cut, baby, cut. Drill, baby, drill!

Free-markets, free people or bust.

Like the man said, what do we have to lose? Continue with godless big government socialism, we lose it all.

Paraphrasing William F Buckley, someone must stand athwart history and yell STOP! That was us, Mr. President. When we sent you to Washington.

Nothing less than full repeal and return to free markets will suffice.

That's the crux of it.

The President and Congress must tell the Americans’ that the current financial condition is so bad that unless we cut spending, cut the size of government and reduce the restrictions on the private sector(which should result in more government income and more private industry jobs) we are on our way to bankruptcy.

And there will be some personal pain connected with this program. It is up to all of us to endure some pain. Our choice - a way back or continuing on the way to destruction.

Well Said

Federal Spending should be cut by 30% in short term and by 75% in long term.

“Should President Trump endorse the CoS, nothing will stand in the way.”

Exactly. I think Trump the man and Trump the President is a once in a multi-generational phenomenon. At this point he really could take the CoS over the top.

CoS really is the last option and if CoS does not happen during Trump I fear it may never.

Do you know if any major CoS proponents are promoting it to the Trump Team?

You'll probably find that the Republicans are bigger spenders than Democrats. Political partisanship really has nothing to do with it. Both parties suck -- badly.

Federal debt grows fastest when one party -- either party -- rules in Washington. That's why the first six years of the Bush administration and the first two years of the Obama administration were 'effing disastrous as far as our national debt goes.

An analogy comes to mind, with enough horsepower we can paddle this canoe up Niagara falls.

We have quite a task ahead.
I see the fact that so many expect Trump do it on his own.
I just can't get past the feeling that it would take pitchforks and torches on the DC lawn to instill enough fear in our Reps to get there.

History teaches that the debt problem is one that constantly recurs.

In the syllabus of study for those that would be king is a course called Inflation 101. The key method is devaluation. Devaluing the money by making smaller or thinner or alloyed coins has been the process of old.

Today the method is to devalue the money and induce inflation. The rate of inflation of about 7% annually will reduce the value of the debt by half in 10 years.

The current inflation is said to be 2% which will reduce the debt by half in around 36 years.

or..... there will be war and the debt will be swept under the rug
Inflation and devaluation will solve the debt problem

There are no guarantees that we will win the next world war or that civilization will survive it. Nor that we will survive hyperinflation.

Nope. I’m not aware of any COS proponents with access to President Trump.

But man oh’ man, a Trump endorsement of A5 COS would be hugh and series, a bigly event!

Could the Nation file for Chapter 11? Could we freeze the debt and reduce spending across the board in the first year so that the debt clock stopped. Could we convert interest payments to principal payments and be debt free in 20y? Perhaps if there were ever to be growth in the economy we could renegotiate the debt to include a nominal amount of interest to our creditors.

My parents have a large basement, so my family is OK.

Bullseye!

Even if we accept, for the sake of argument, that 20 million Americans need an entitlement program for healthcare (debatable), that is less than 10% of the population. That leaves 90% who are able to fend for themselves on the free market if government would get out of the way! Why are we holding 300 million people hostage for the sake of 20 million?
