American media missed the rise of Donald Trump because they spent too much time talking to each other and too little looking at factors that challenged their conventional wisdom. That was the conclusion of Nate Silver, purveyor of fivethirtyeight.com and perhaps Americas leading political numbers cruncher.
Journalists should recalibrate themselves to be more skeptical of the consensus of their peers, Silver wrote in the last of his nine-part series The Real Story of 2016, which appeared Friday.
Silver said journalists rejected information that could have led them to conclude the Hillary Clinton campaign was not the slam dunk they perceived it to be. He said they got convinced by national polls that Clinton was further ahead than she was and ignored tightening polls in even those states, such as Ohio and Iowa, that had proven to be bellwethers in the past.

Yes. He seems focused on probabilities, or something. The media, you see, would have know the odds were not quite in Hillary's favor, if the media had not been in a bubble.
The other way to look at it is that America DOES NOT WANT what the media and Hillary were selling.
It wasn't that so much Hillary "wasn't being successful" it was much more the Left "was being rejected".
Until the media grasps this, they will continue to decline. And I expect them to decline into nothingness because they surely do not want to stop their propaganda.
Why does ANYONE listen to this guy?
All this analysis of the simple fact the media are all democrats. My God look at them after the election they are a political party there is no reporting.
Yikes.
Yes. Mr. Silver is working hard to perpetuate the myth that the media is or tries to be objective when it comes to politics.
Stupid media types think tha WAS is the operative word....there still IS a media bubble
Since forever the beltway pundits have talked to each other and no one else
As we pointed out definitively in “How Trump Won.”
BTW we just did a deal for a German translation.
This idiot gets paid money and goes on TV to say things we all know, and even I would look better than that on tv.
Education is more than a college degree. People who make shrines of their diplomas have learned nothing of value, as they show arrogance and total lack of wisdom.
The absence of respect for people who are in another place, occupation, religion, etc. will always lead to incorrect conclusions.
the piece is a revisionist lie seeking to develop a new lie as justification for the big lies
That’s = that is.
Thanks. Breitbart is impossible to read from my Chromebook. It bogs it down to a crawl.
“Was? As in the past tense?”
Nothing new here...
Pauline Kael famously commented, after the 1972 Presidential election, I live in a rather special world. I only know one person who voted for Nixon. Where they are I dont know. Theyre outside my ken. But sometimes when Im in a theater I can feel them.’
It shows once again that the media is overwhelmingly biased liberal, and cannot report anything that does not confirm their agenda.
They are partisans; the praetorian guards of the world view of Sodom.
feeling people in a theater, sounds vaguely illegal.
I too just zipped my mouth here in San Diego about Trump. When asked about the election I said that the Tea Party was out there waiting. I also noticed that Clinton could not get above 43% and said that was definitely a tell. Then the dam burst Monday before the Victory, Clinton cancelled the firework show for Tuesday night in NY Harbor. That was it, Trump has victory in his grasp.
For Christmas my grand daughters gave me a MAGA hat. I wear it everywhere. Funny every day I get a compliment, “Love your hat”. People were waiting, are still waiting. Nate the FAKE, realize that the wave is still coming and getting bigger.
The man who predicted Trump will never win 7 times is now trying to re-brand himself as the moral authority over the media. He must need work!

He’s now just trying to find his credibility.
Oh, please. Stop pretending The Fake News Media is anything other than an arm of The DemonicRAT Party.
