The biggest problem with health "insurance" is the language itself. Insurance is based on statistical science that predicts losses under 100% and determines premiums based on expected outcomes.

That's why catastrophic events like hurricane, tornadoes, floods, earthquakes, fires, etc used to - and still can - wipe out insurance companies. That is, the dial goes to "11".

Health insurance isn't insurance at all based on calculations of risk & return. If you live long enough, it's practically a guaranteed 100% chance that you will consume health benefits far in excess of premiums. So the "insurance" aspect is based on death occurring beforehand.

But with longer lifespans occurring due to improved diet, disease control, medical technology, etc, doctors can preserve/extend life by orders of magnitude over just a decade ago. There is no reason for this trend not to continue - as we can see, expected lifespans continue to increase.

This is where the argument for single-payer comes from: every single person will need major medical attention at some time, so why not just treat it as a cost of doing government business? The left tries to portray it as a "right", whereas the right tends to think the open market will provide solutions.

IMO, both are wrong. It's not a right, but it's also not insurance. It's more like infrastructure - gov't (we the people) pay the cost of maintaining a baseline.

Sounds very Trumpian. I wouldn’t doubt he’s keeping something very similar in his back pocket just in case.

The “exempt” class foisting this turd on the rest of the population while being immune themselves has always burned me most of all.

Oh, but I do have a choice.

I can choose whether or not to get angry and fly off the handle and accuse Trump of lying when I know that Trump isn’t a liar over something that I have no control over.

As you can see from reading various threads, other people have chosen to go apeshit.

Poor choice.

What’s with these tax credits. Just allow tax deductions for all medical expenses.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Public Law 111–148) is repealed, and the provisions of law amended or repealed by such Act are restored or revived as if such Act had not been enacted.

What so hard about that?

Because all of the foundations of employer provided health care was destroyed and can't simply be wished back into existence.

The original intent was to force everyone to buy insurance similar to every driver forced to buy auto insurance. This is generally a good thing as no one wants to pay for someone else's free ride.

The problems arose because politicians had to load it with carrots and sticks to get it passed and to ensure that all of the deadbeats who wouldn't or couldn't pay would be covered by subsidies.

But because we have imported the third world into our country and half of the millenials are incapable of working, the citizens working had to forgo their good insurance to ensure crappy coverage for all.

Obama and the Democrats lowering the bar instead of helping those below.

It doesn’t take wishes. It takes doing. What’s so hard about doing it? It was far more difficult to impose ACA than it will be to return to the status quo ante. All that’s lacking is will. Republicans do not want to repeal ACA. THAT is the problem.

does the senate need 60 votes to repeal ?
If so, they will never get a repeal and the way to gut is from the inside out, which is what they are trying to do now.

If they don’t need 60 votes, then shame on them.
The problem becomes political will.

If they repeal and no replace, could the Repubs lose in the 2018 midterm elections and lose the Senate and the House ? They wont take that chance, so no repeal without replace.

Thinking sending the bill that Obama vetoed is the answer? It essentially is the same bill they have going now.

60 is required if the bill is filibustered. Can 8 Democrats be brought on board? Not if Republicans don’t try. Will all 52 Republicans vote to repeal? Doubtful.

They will lower insurance and drug costs in phases 2 and 3. Phase 1 has a narrow scope because of reconciliation rules.

As long as the government is subsidizing costs there is no incentive to reduce premiums. And they won't.

If they cut off all the subsidies next month many states will go bankrupt. This will have to be addressed later.

So if you are correct you are saying bankrupt the states later rather than now. The end result is that states will have to either come up with the funding or remove people from their Medicaid rolls. And why is later any better than right now?

Just found an interesting opinion:

It just dawned on me what Trump is doing with Obamacare-lite House Bill. He’s destroying Paul Ryan. In other words: It’s Secretary of State Mitt Romney ploy all over again.

Trump is going to let Paul Ryan spend all of Ryan’s own political capitol and put him in his place. It’s rather brilliant.

Notice the 3 outspoken people on the House Side:

Rep Mark Meadows
Rep Jim Jordan
Rep Dave Brat

They are getting a lot of face time in addition to Rand Paul in the Senate.

Why you ask?

Imagine:
Speaker Mark Meadows
House Majority Leader Jim Jordan
House Majority Whip Dave Brat

This is Trump’s revenge on the GOP side of the Uniparty specifically Paul Ryan.
What I think Trump is going to do is talk with Conservatives, and introduce the real deal Obamacare Replacement bill next week, and basically force the reconciliation bill be the same one past last year.
