In Referendum on Refugees, Rutland Mayor Loses Reelection Bid
Seven Days Vermont ^ | 3/7/2017 | Mark Davis

Rutland Mayor Chris Louras, who endured months of withering criticism for his plan to bring Syrian refugees to the city, lost his reelection bid on Tuesday.

In unofficial voting results, David Allaire, a city alderman and leading critic of the resettlement, trounced Louras, a 10-year mayoral incumbent, by a 776-vote margin, according to results cited by the Rutland Herald and WCAX-TV.

"I'm simply wishing him luck and I'm moving on," Louras told Seven Days Tuesday night. He declined further comment, saying he would "not hazard a guess" as to what the election results say about Rutland's support for refugees.

Typical lame-@ss reporting - they give the vote total for two minor candidates, and they give the vote margin between the top two, but they don’t give the vote total for those two.

So how significant was the margin of victory of the non-refugee candidate? Did he win by a fraction of a percent? By several percent? by a two-to-one margin? One would need an actual reporter to find out how strongly his views were supported.

Found this: https://vtdigger.org/2017/03/07/allaire-ousts-louras-rutland-city-mayors-race/

"Allaire, a 19-year veteran of the city’s Board of Aldermen, garnered 2,196 votes to Louras’ 1,420. Mike Coppinger, the executive director of the Downtown Rutland Partnership, had 559, and resident Kam Johnston finished fourth in the four-way race with 54 votes."

It was a landslide victory.

“He declined further comment, saying he would “not hazard a guess” as to what the election results say about Rutland’s support for refugees.”

There should be NO support for any of them. They should not be allowed into this country. They do not have our values and furthermore they are all on a mission to take over the world. So we should not be helping them in that criminal endeavor.

Thanks for chasing that down. And yes, it was a landslide; moreover, if you add up the vote totals for the three non-refugee candidates, almost a 2-to-1 margin.

Which of course explains why they wouldn’t supply all the numbers.

“He lost to Alderman Dave Allaire by a margin of 52 percent to 34 percent. Allaire swept all four wards.”
