Marines from an amphibious task force have left their ships in the Middle East and deployed to Syria, establishing an outpost from which they can fire artillery guns in support of the fight to take back the city of Raqqa from the Islamic State, defense officials said.

TURN THE DESERT INTO A GLASS PARKING LOT
Went one time to a Saturday AM live fire of a TOW Missile Company practice.
People, civilians and brass, were everywhere.
Everything went fine as one after another jeep mounted squads pulled up to the firing line and always hit the targets which were old tanks about a 1000 yards down range.
Then one squad fired and the wire broke that guides the missile and it went spiraling out of control.
People all over were hitting the deck, hiding behind cars or whatever they could find.
I remember hiding behind my car and thinking, “What the hell? This is a Pinto. If it hits I’m toast anyways!”................
We watched a LAW launched at an old wreck and a anti-personnel round fired into a bunch of balloons in a boot camp demo.. They trusted us enough to toss live grenades at least..
Well said.
What was really cool was the night time live fire demos with tracers!................
“What is our end game?”
Destroy ISIS.
Beyond that, a broader strategy is being developed to counter radical islamic extremism... Such as bombing the crap out of alQueda in the Arabian Peninsula in Yemen.
More to follow.
What about getting them out of the USA, that would be my first thought.
Going over there and fighting over a big heap of sand, goats and camels sounds fun but why don’t we just let them kill each other and seal our border
Yep. We'll see who are hypocrites and who are not.
“Why dont we just let them kill each other and seal our border?”
If we allow evil to triumph, it will only grow stronger to attack us more forcefully. If enriched with billions in oil wealth, and all the resources of a nation state (like nukes), they could do much more damage to us.
We know they intend to kill or enslave us. Better to nip it in the bud, than to pay more later.
“The new mission comes as the Trump administration weighs a plan to take back Raqqa, the so-called capital of the Islamic State, that also includes more Special Operations troops and attack helicopters.”
Git’er done.
LPD, Gator Navy ping....
I don’t doubt that our military can get the job done, it is our political will that get in the way. What is our goal in Syria, if we deploy more troops I want a good explanation not some GW Bush and Obolo hollow talk.
We should just stay out of Syria, the Middle East conflict has no end in sight, our tax dollars are better spent else where.
My thought exactly. Even though Trump is CIC he doesn’t get a pass either.
F**k that Osprey, NEVER should have been fleet-ready, a lot of good people died and were hurt pushing that mistake of an aircraft. My unit’s CH-53’s were damn good (yea, old) birds and should have continued in-use.
Hell yeah on night time tracer rounds, did a bit of that over in SA during the Gulf War from a CH-53, nothing like a .50 cal paddle trigger spitting fire in the night sky ;-)
Read a book years back that tried to compute the effectiveness of different ordinance employed in Gulf War I. The verdict was that the precision guided stuff was more cost effective than the non-guided stuff. But there were two exceptions, merely ‘aimed’ munitions that were every bit or more cost effective than the precision stuff: carpet bombing by B52s (the Iraqi’s reacted to it just like the VC) and 16” naval artillery.
After smacking around civilians for a couple of years, ISIS jihadi boys are soon to wake up to some new neighbors in Raqqa.
“I guess that whole declaration of war stuff is passé.”
Or this is a continuation from GW Bush in 2003 on up to the previous Presidents actions, etc.
