In Referendum on Refugees, Rutland Mayor Loses Reelection Bid (Vermont)

Rutland (Vermont) Mayor Chris Louras, who endured months of withering criticism for his plan to bring Syrian refugees to the city, lost his reelection bid on Tuesday.
In unofficial voting results, David Allaire, a city alderman and leading critic of the resettlement, trounced Louras, a 10-year mayoral incumbent, by a 776-vote margin, according to results cited by the Rutland Herald and WCAX-TV.

Hahaha I love it, they wanted to turn this Vermont town into “little Syria”. Maybe that judge in Washington State will order those damn Americans to take in the refugees.

Don’t you mean Fred Tuttle ?Charles Tuttle was one of the top publishers of Japan-related books in the postwar 20th century, and Charles E. Tuttle Publishing had its main offices in Tokyo and Rutland, VT. It's the only reason I ever knew of the town until the recent "refugee" shenanigans.

That’s not just a town but a gorgeous one heavily dependent on swells visiting. He was trying to wreck it just to show how absurdly open minded he was. Good win for sanity.
