Last summer my daughter’s house was broken into, ransacked and property stolen by a couple of dopers. Why would I care how many of them die with a needle in their arm?
I hope more of them die. It’ll make the neighborhood safer.

Although there could be cases (rare,I suspect) of people with real pain and,thus,a real need for narcotics (cancer patients,for example) getting hooked on drugs I’m convinced that the overwhelming majority of addicts are just weak,immoral creatures.
From the map, the problem seems to be worst in Working Class areas, which is why the media is virtually silent on it.
Nothing like their response to AIDS.

The problem is not that dopers are not dying fast enough from their stupid choice to poison themselves (and often rob others to fund their self-destructive habit). The problem is thinking that government is the answer to this problem or to any other social problem.
The proper solution is in our churches and our communities. Drugs are a terrible problem, and we need to provide alternatives so that children don’t choose to start down that terrible path, support so those who make that mistake can recover their lives, and enforcement so that those who deal drugs end up behind bars forever. Once a desperate and potentially-violent druggie breaks into my home, I am perfectly willing to shoot him, center-mass, to stop the threat. However, before they break in to homes or rob people on the streets, I would like to see them saved and their lives restored by Christian charitable efforts.
Every problem is an excuse for concentrating power in the hands of government.

Oh I bet the lefties are just doing this to get rid of our pain meds (from the pain they seem to enjoy inflicting on us daily) or the pharmaceutical companies are trying to get legislation passed where opioids are more regulated and less available so they can jack up their prices.

There are 1.33 million chronic pain patient in the US, their health conditions can’t be cured, Opioids are all they have for any form of life beyond a bed still in pain.
Roughly 16% of drug OD’s are done by those who use script drugs with other agents or get illegal street drugs LACED with Fentanyl that was stolen from a pharmacy by a crook or a crooked employee. There has been a 40% increase in such OD’s.
Then what about that person like my brother who drank himself to death by creating bad health issues, we just buried him 2 weeks ago.
DUMBO ordered the DEA to lower pain meds even for Cancer victims by 75%, doctors are afraid to prescribe pain meds any more.

I think it's more of a question of timing. Imagine being at the low point of your life and chance offers a tempting way out. Sometimes that way out is suicide, and sometimes it is drugs, but almost anything looks good when you've hit bottom. Some of us look and say "no, this is temporary, and it will get better without making such a stupid choice". Others, no more imperfect than us, just imperfect in different ways or facing exactly the wrong temptation at exactly the wrong time, make a terrible choice.
We all have the potential to be weak or immoral in one way or another, but some don't have the strength, courage, faith, or timing to turn to Jesus when we are not strong enough. Note: I've never even considered suicide or drugs. However, I did receive a VERY tempting offer of another kind at a time when I was dealing with a lot of big problems. Satan is not stupid (which is proof that Barack Obama was not Satan); Satan will hit you with the most tempting idea he has at exactly the worst time in your life for you to resist. I find it hard to blame weakness or immorality when we are facing such a powerful adversary - none of us by ourselves can be sure of prevailing against those odds.
I’m honestly of a mixed opinion on this.
There’s a young man at my church who lived in the drug lifestyle for several years. A friend convinced him to go to a Christian treatment facility where he became a believer and broke his addiction. He still struggles but the people at our church has really adopted and helped him.
Last year, a young man who I led as a Boy Scout for none years suddenly died with no explanation. My suspicions were confirmed last December when a friend told me that he overdosed on heroin. He was in college and we’d lost touch with him but I truly grieved for his family.
I think that the supply is almost unlimited and the price is low enough that getting hooked is easy.
Our small county had a 62% rise in overdoses from 2015 to 2016. That’s not a victimless crime. These guys may do it to themselves, but there’s a huge cost to their families, EMT’s and police. Both physical and emotional cost. The Fire Chief in our town was talking in a meeting recently about PTSD among first responders. Multiple OD runs certainly contribute.
I don’t know the answer, but building a wall will dramatically slow the easy influx. The scum will find another way, and we’ll deal with that when it arises.
