The former agent, noting Trump had Secret Service protection as a candidate, thinks it’s much more likely the Secret Service discovered something while performing one of their ECM sweeps of Trump Tower and later found out it was the DOJ that had ordered the surveillance.

That was with analog AMPS cell technology in the 800 band... it was really just an “in the clear” radio transmission... if you had a Motorola cell phone you could just punch in #testmode* and then select a channel to listen in on... the old couple had a scanner with 800 band access.. that’s all.
One method I heard of preventing eavesdropping through windows is to play music in the air space between the window panes.
I glass installer once told me that they installed the windows at one of the intelligence agencies and that’s what they did.

That would work if the gap between panes had your typical nitrogen fill... after all music/sound needs a transport mechanism... if there was a vacuum between the panes a laser microphone would likely work on the inner pane although you’d need a light color that can penetrate the outer pane cleanly which likely has some barrier to UV .. more than likely the speaker/sound source was directed or attached to the pane or frame of the window.

What I figure happened was that hired professionals who knew what they were doing performed the intercept and gave the tape to the “old couple” who were Dem operatives who then gave the tape to Rep. Jim McDermott who was investigating Gingrich.

There are only two wires to the transmitter in a handset, so the AT&T explaination of a "mistake in wiring" was totally bogus.
I think were seeing about 25 years of unrestrained government corruption at the highest levels being publicly exposed to the world. It’s unraveling right before our eyes.

Does that include server cpu’s like xeon or just consumer? My current computer predates 2009... I know they have the ability to access cpu “options” via the bios.

At least 15 years ago, the FBI had a listening device that used a reflected laser to hear conversations inside. It needed to be lined up properly to reflect off the window-glass of the room to be surveilled.
