Former Director of National Intelligence (DNI) James Clapper on Sunday denied President Trump's allegations that former President Barack Obama wiretapped Trump Tower before the election.
During an interview on NBC's "Meet The Press," Clapper was asked if he would be aware if something like that had happened.
"I would certainly hope so ... Obviously I can't speak officially anymore," Clapper said on NBC's "Meet The Press."
"But I will say that for the part of the national security apparatus that I oversaw as DNI, there was no such wiretap activity mounted against the president-elect at the time, as a candidate, or against his campaign."
Clapper also said he would know if a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) court order existed for "something like this." "And at this point you can't confirm or deny whether that exists?" host Chuck Todd asked.
"I can deny it," Clapper said in response.
"There is no FISA court order," Todd asked.
"Not to my knowledge," Clapper responded.
The president on Saturday claimed Obama had his "wires tapped" at Trump Tower before his presidential victory. He laid out the claims without any evidence and questioned whether it was legal for a sitting president to be "'wire tapping' a race for president prior to an election."
White House press secretary Sean Spicer on Sunday said investigations into Russia's attempts to influence the election should include the president's claim that the Obama administration "abused" its investigation powers in 2016.

Why is the title “Clapper Denies Wiretap”? What he said is that there should not have been one. If there is one, those words could be used against the Seditionists.

I hope this is all just the start of tearing down the political machine that is FISA/CIA/MIA etc. and replacing it all with a new system. The political communist moles have to go. At the very least it is a direct muddying of the waters that will get the dialogue started and allow inspection and destruction of Obama’s shadow government.
So Clapper wiretapped without a FISA order. Isn’t a FISA order required for FBI, not NSA?
NSA has all the data on all the American people without our knowledge, so NSA can do whatever they want at least under Obama.

Actually if Clapper is telling the truth that he did NOT know about the FISA warrant, and if as so many press outlets are reporting there really was a FISA warrant, that is damning to the Obama administration.
It is the DOJ that applies for a FISA warrant and then the FBI carries it out.
If they did all that and never told the DNI, then that would be unusual and tend to prove that it WAS political and not a bona fide national security operation.
