Consider this: in 1972 our population was 210,000,000. Today, we have 325,000,000.

So the WINNING here is even more impressive, since the pool of people is much larger!

Unemployment was calculated more honestly back then. Todays number does not account for millions who have quit looking, etc.

I would hardly call 95 million people not working “a tightening of the labor market”...

As millions enter the job market in the next few months, expect the unemployment rate to rise and the media to joyfully report.

This is not bad news. Seems to me at least the layoffs are slowing down....

Are you seriously trying to credit Trump for this?

Have you actually been paying attention to the unemployment numbers? The reason this number is low is because there is far less employment than ever in terms of percentage of available workers. Companies are working at the bone level of workers. People are filing for disability at record rates.

“””It was the 104th straight week that claims remained below 300,000, a threshold associated with a healthy labor market.”””

Are then also crediting Obama for this as it’s been low for the last twelve months for the same reasons I mentioned.

The unemployment numbers are totally bogus because they are COOKED. They do not take into account ANY of the 94 MILLION Americans who are out of the labor force who want to work but can not find a job. These American citizens used up ALL of their unemployment benifits in their vain attempts to find work and once their benifits were totally exhausted the fraudulent government bean counters PERMANENTLY REMOVED THEM FROM THE UNEMPLOYMENT ROLLS IN ORDER TO "COOK THE BOOKS" and ARTIFICIALLY lower the unemployment numbers.

These are the "forgotten men and women". They STILL EXIST, and THEY ARE STILL UNEMPLOYED, ONLY OUR "GOVERNMENT" NO LONGER COUNTS THEM SO THAT IT CAN CONTINUE TO LIE ABOUT THE SEVERITY OF THE PROBLEM BY FOISTING THESE PHONY, ARTIFICIALLY LOW "unemployment numbers" on the gullible American public.

If the government returned to using the formula it used to use and accurately counted the unemployment numbers by taking these additional 94 MILLION UNEMPLOYED Americans into account and adding them BACK ONTO the unemployment rolls you would have an honest and accurate unemployment rate of at least 20 percent. But they still refuse to do so because the mass of voters would be in an uproar over how high it REALLY IS and it would hurt THE GOVERNMENT AND WALL STREET'S bottom line and they know they can't have that.

So they will continue to still lie to the American people and foist these phony unemployment numbers on us because it suits their purpose.

It is a part time economy.

Pres Trump will bring real jobs that can support a family AND not be on food stamps.

Obama did do something--he changed the way the unemployment numbers were calculated to make it look better than it actually is. Looks like the Trump admin. is still using the Obama formula.

These are, IIRC, “first time” unemployment claims...a weekly raw number. I don’t know if those raw numbers are cooked.

The unemployment numbers are totally bogus. The claims have been ARTIFICIALLY "low for 104 weeks" because the government intentionally no longer counts the 94 - 95 MILLION UNEMPLOYED AMERICANS who have exhausted their unemployment benifits looking for a job and are no longer able to collect. These "forgotten men and women" who are unemployed, who want to work but can not find a job STILL EXIST but our government no longer counts them or considers them unemployed so that it can continue to foist "the big low unemployment lie" on the American people.

Taking these additional 94 - 95 MILLION unemployed Americans into account the actual unemployment figure is at least 20 percent!

Exactly and people would be ripping Obama with these very same numbers. They are phony numbers that do not show the true employment picture.

I refer you to my previous answer. The record low number has much to do with optimism provided by Trump.

Employers started hiring right after the November election and know they will reap rewards instead of being taxed to death.

I’ve been wondering about that - if the Trump Administration will alter how the jobless numbers are tabulated to more honest numbers? (once the ‘Shadow Government’ is eliminated that is)
