Recent weeks have seen a flood of media reports on Republicans facing angry constituents at town-hall meetings, so its nice to see the Associated Press point out that many Democrats have been dodging town halls altogether.
Specifically, APs Steve Peoples notes that Senate Democrats up for re-election in states that President Trump carried on Election Day just dont want to show up.
Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), for one, sent a staff member rather than attend a Kansas City town hall last weekend. She will chat with voters this week via Facebook Live a much more controlled environment, where angry mass shouting isnt an option.
Sens. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND), Bob Casey (D-Pa.), Bill Nelson (D-Fla.), Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) have also dodged town-hall gatherings, the AP reports opting instead for teleconferences, e-mail surveys and speeches. . . .
The reasons are obvious: McCaskill, Manchin and the rest just dont want to be pushed into any corners. They dont dare stare down the left, or they risk facing primary challenges.
But they also cant promise too much to these voters for fear of angering the majority in these Trump states.

Manchin’s only way out is to switch parties. HIs state has left him. McGaskell won by a scant margin of less than 2%, so she’s very vulnerable.
Just because they aren't in the Senate doesn't mean they can't start laying out a state issues platform, get some fresh faces before the people, and create some talking points to challenge the Democrat incumbents who are too afraid to meet with voters.
State Republican parties should hold town hall meetings everywhere that incumbent Democrats refuse to.

Todd Akin emtied a magazine into his foot.
I live in a mixed state. The republicN has townhalls all the time. The democrat has never been seen
One of our reps was going to hold a townhall style meeting in a very blue area of AZ just this week but word got back to him it could get violent on the part of the leftists so he changed it to a phone in townhall meeting. Everyone could simply phone in and listen and put themselves in the que to ask a question or make a statement if they wanted but no one could throw rocks or burn cars.
I like it when the rioters get their opportunities taken away from them. The left has a lot of anarchists aligned with them which I find quite ironic since they are at opposite ends of the spectrum. Leftists want a huge bloated government to take care of every little thing for them from cradle to grave and anarchists want no government at all and just want to rule by violence and intimidation kinda like mob rule.
