US Belongs to All Nations’: Ex-Iran president writes a letter to Donald Trump

ran’s former hardline president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sent a letter Sunday to President Donald Trump, striking a somewhat conciliatory tone while applauding immigration to America and saying it shows “the contemporary US belongs to all nations”.

It isn’t the first dispatch sent by Ahmadinejad, who has counted US Presidents George W Bush and Barack Obama among his pen pals.

But this letter, weighing in at over 3,500 words, comes as criticism of Trump over his travel ban affecting seven Muslim-majority countries including Iran mounts in Tehran. It also may serve to burnish Ahmadinejad’s image domestically after the nation’s Supreme Leader warned him not to run in Iran’s upcoming May presidential election.

In the letter, published by Iranian media outlets, Ahmadinejad noted Trump won the election while he “truthfully described the US political system and electoral structure as corrupt”.

The more Iranians are ignored, the crazier they become.

You know, this is actually the problem with the majority of the world: They really do believe that we are community property. We aren't a "true" country or nationality (like THEY are), we're a patchwork quilt sewn together from scraps of "True" nationalities. That's why they hate us so much if we don't do what they want. They think they helped create us, so they get a say in whatever we do for the rest of time. It's very hard for other countries to realize: YOU DIDN'T BUILD THAT. Just because some of our citizens were expelled (or escaped) from your country doesn't mean we owe you anything. The rest of the world needs to get it through their heads: The United States does NOT, in fact, belong to all of you. We belong to us.

“the contemporary US belongs to all nations”

The logical end of progressivism. The US, UK, Germany, France, etc ... belong to the world. It’s almost like there’s a pattern. Probably just a coincidence.

No, the United States of America belongs to its citizens and no one else.
Citizens of other countries get no say in who gets to come here.

The logical end of progressivism. The US, UK, Germany, France, etc ... belong to the world.

And also the rest of Europe, plus Canada, Australia and New Zealand. All the successful nations belong to the world and anyone who wants to should be able to move any of them. Definitely appears to be a pattern.

Yes. Only countries that have been historically predominately White belong to “The World”. All the rest belong to indigenous peoples and must not be touched.

applauding immigration to America and saying it shows “the contemporary US belongs to all nations”.

An Iranian nut job gets to decide who another sovereign nation belongs to?

WTF?

We're busy at the moment, but we'll get to you eventually.

In the meantime, try that insanity with Russia, why don't you?

This is no ordinary commentator, after all, but a former head of state who, when in power, turned his country into a repressive, theocratic, closed-borders police state. It is a little vague how such a fellow has suddenly transformed into an avatar of open-borders globalism unless one realizes that it only applies not just to somebody else, but somebody who he has said that he hates.

Without being overly cynical, this may not be the best source for helpful advice on how to run a country. Perhaps when Iran delivers up a little slice of its own territory to the Kurds we might find a little consistency in policy here. That happy day doesn't appear to be on the horizon anytime soon.

The notion that "what's mine is mine, what's yours is negotiable" has morphed inevitably into "what's mine is mine, what's yours is mine as well", which is not merely a foundational tenet of socialism but of predatory ideologies across the board. That all the people in the world have some sort of amorphous claim to the wealth earned by others is not, after all, the ideal of Mohandas Gandhi, but of Genghis Khan, and its proponents ought to be regarded appropriately.
