Two men made trouble—and stirred up a social-media frenzy—on the third day of the Conservative Political Action Conference by conducting a literal false-flag operation.
The flags were subsequently confiscated by CPAC staff, but not before pictures of audience members waving Russian flags went prank went viral on social media.
ason Charter, 22, and Ryan Clayton, 36, passed out roughly 1,000 red, white, and blue flags, each bearing a gold-emblazoned “TRUMP” in the center, to an auditorium full of attendees waiting for President Trump to address the conference. Audience members waved the pennants—and took pictures with them—until CPAC staffers realized the trick: They were Russian flags.
The stunt made waves on social media, as journalists covering CPAC noticed the scramble to confiscate the insignia.
“Most people didn’t realize it was a Russian flag, or they didn’t care,” Charter told me in a phone interview. He and Clayton had purchased tickets to CPAC for the day the president was scheduled to speak, and managed to disperse the flags with surprising ease among the crowd.
But the two wouldn’t call it a “false-flag” operation. “It’s true-flag operation,” Clayton told me over the phone, in a thick, mock Russian accent. “It show how Trump and Russia are so connected, they like peas in pod!” The CPAC stunt comes after a report from February 14 suggesting that Trump aides were in contact with Russian intelligence officials in the year before the U.S. presidential election. Trump himself has also praised Russian President Vladimir Putin on a number of occasions.
After the flag trick, Clayton was escorted from the premises, but Charter wasn’t booted until he stood up during Trump’s official remarks to accuse him of being a “fascist” and “Putin’s puppet.”

So, it is a “Trump” flag with a background of red, white and blue. Not a big deal in my book.
The only people who relish this story are people who already hated Trump, they expended resources while converting absolutely no one.
I hope they do this a bazillion times.
If I get rainbow flags with Clinton printed on them and I succeed in handing them out at a Clinton event, did I really accomplish anything?

I generally don’t wave flags. In fact I don’t recall ever waving a flag. BUT I would never wave a flag that promotes homosexuality or sexual deviancy.

I don’t think it’s just a matter of being stupid. In fact, it’s quite cut throat to do this in a room full of your enemies... not sure if “stupid” applies.
This kind of nonsense is what gets liberals excited and gives pause to the independent types... those people who don’t think of themselves as liberals, but aren’t exactly thrilled with Trump.
Yeah, I am sick to death when it comes to libertarians, too, but this occurrence is the type of thing that the liberals and leftist scum will use again and again.
We cannot afford it! Just because Trump won, and things are looking promising long term, doesn’t mean be we should be complicit when our side royally f’s up like this... !
Even if it was a mere 12 people holding those flags, the story still exploded and the new narrative becomes : EVERYONE in that room was waving the Russian flag!
Conservatives allowed this idiotic situation to happen!

I was there at CPAC when this happened and had a flag just handed to me and others around me. The Yuge TRUMP letters on it made me question it. In less than a minute we collected ALL the fake flags and handed them to a CPAC staff person. That’s what actually happened at CPAC. I was a first hand witness. A complete non event. Shortly after that someone off to the far side yelled “fascist” and was hustled out of the ballroom by secret service in less than 10 seconds. For those of us in the room all this was hardly even noticed.
Yeah, well, I don’t want them to laugh right now. This is a war, and they’re becoming good at sneak attacks.
This one is just too blatant. They may as well have passed out “SCREW TRUMP” signs.
And now they will ridicule.
I just wish there was something to fire back on this... but as far as I can tell, there is nothing. The trap was set, and conservatives took the bait. That’s it. Now we have to suck it up.
We should pass out wiki leaks documents out at DNC rallies.
Come on. Know your sources. Just as bad as the Dems giving up all their personal flags.

Having so much contempt for fellow human beings is not healthy, but boy, do I despise them.
Instead of calling this a “trick” we should repeatedly refer to this as a “dirty trick”.
Yeah, if this was on some small lib blog, that’s one thing..... but NBC is already picking this up. That’s the crux for me. This goes down a particular path and there really is no way to easily turn it around.
