Ahead of a highly anticipated report the Pentagon will deliver to the White House on a new plan to defeat the Islamic State group, the biggest change employed by the military may be in the name of the enemy itself.
The Defense Department now officially refers to its primary foe in Iraq and Syria as "ISIS," according to a memo the Pentagon issued earlier this month.
Since the campaign began in 2014, military officials grappled with President Barack Obama's preferred "ISIL," short for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, a more regionally sensitive and accurate translation of the terror network's geographic scope but hardly as verbally pliable as Trump's go-to term.
"The Defense Department will use the term Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, when referring to this threat," Defense Department Executive Secretary Michael Bruhn wrote in a Feb. 13 memo obtained by U.S. News and sent to each of the military departments and leaders within the Pentagon. It cites the memo the White House released on Jan. 28 calling on the defense secretary to prepare a new plan to defeat the Islamic State group.
The review Trump ordered on Jan. 28 is due by Tuesday and calls on the military, intelligence agencies and departments of State and Treasury to develop "comprehensive strategy and plans for the defeat of ISIS." It follows the president's repeated pledge he would defeat ISIS, which he said he would achieve "with very fast results."
Military officials may also use the term, "Daesh," a derogatory Arabic acronym favored among America's allies in the war against the Islamic State group.

I also hated it when they used to talk about "Usama" Bin Laden.
Finally! That was one the my biggest gripes about pro-sharia-obama-regime.
Isn’t there another, ruder term? I remember Isis being called that by some of the other people in the mid-east.
Anyone have a handle on what happened to the term “Daesh”? It popped out of nowhere as the “correct” term, was clarified as derogatory, major news outlets AND Obama suddenly started using it as though they had always been, then after about 3 weeks everyone stopped using the term as if it never existed.
Finally! Although, that was a good litmus test to pick out the libtards. Anyone using ISIL was the enemy themselves!
REad here on a thread awhile back that using the term Levant somehow leaves Israel off the map.
Can anyone confirm this?
Don’t matter what you call them. Just call them dead meat................
It’s the little things that count. Root out Obama’s legacy wherever it can be found.
President Servpro. Like it never even happened!
Attention to detail. I bet Bibi noted it also.
Teddy what do you say?...Teddy...sit up for a minute..mmmwhat do you say?
“Obama Bin Laden”
OK Teddy go back in the ground
‘ISIL” implies dominion over the Levant and therefore claim to the land of Israel. Of course Ubama would use that term.
Oh boy, if this is not sensitive then I'll bet there going to get mad now.
(Obama’s preferred “ISIL,” short for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, a more regionally sensitive and accurate translation of the terror network’s geographic scope)
I know from the above that the author is a Democrat.
The word ISIL gives the group a more formidable name (making them sound like they have control over more territory than they have, consistent with their dream of a Caliphate). Since Trump is not pro-Islamism, of course he wouldn’t want to give these animals their wish.
Major bullshit.
The reason Malik's brother called it "ISIL" is because by referencing the Levant he included Israel in the geographic area, and we all know his plan for Israel: utter destruction.
Using "ISIL" was an overt slap in the face to Israel. It was done on purpose.
FReepers, we've been over this material already. We need to move on to "Winning".
How about soon to be dead islamists?
Keeping it simple would lift the damned veil of obstructive semantics used for decades to shield this persistent/consistent eternally resurrecting enemy.
In parochial school lessons, satanic evil seemed to resemble the antagonists of make believe fairy tales. Too bad instructive identities & details were whitewashed or reinvented for PC/MC even in the '60's - to the point where we could no longer recognize the eternal dangers posed by Islam, be they identified as
or whatever other veiled identity protecting them from direct scrutiny and permanently putting them out of their/our misery.
This week I listened to two Obama administration spokesmen, Josh Not So Earnest from the White House, and Rear Admiral Kirby from the Pentagon in relation to the Islamic terrorist army freely operating in Iraq and Syria. These two individuals and many other voices out of the Obama administration refer to them as ISIL (Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant). The group has professed the establishment of an Islamic caliphate and refers to itself as IS (Islamic State). The manner in which we should all be referring to this savage and barbaric group is ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria).
Why should that matter? What are words for?
First, if you choose to refer to this group as ISIL, you have basically rewritten the map of the Middle East and fallen into the trap of not recognizing the existence of Israel and also Lebanon. If you use ISIL you are then validating the Islamic totalitarian and jihadist claim that the modern day Jewish State of Israel is an occupation state and does not exist in the eyes of Muslims.
The use of ISIL was all about Obama sticking his finger in the eye of Israel.
so can we now unscrub all the scrubbed references to ISALM in all the FEDS training manuals and terrorism reports ?
Can we now tell the Military chaplain corps that they can go back and evangelize in their God’s name ?
Can we now fire anyone that is or has any relationship, with the Mooselib Brotherhood ?
Can we now fire Valerie Jarret and Susan Rice and Ben Rhodes ?
Article never mentioned the second “S” is for Syria, the state Obama tried to destabilize.
