Ivanka, Jared Intervened To Strip Language Critical Of The Paris Climate Accords Out Of ...
Daily Caller ^ | 2/23/17 | Michael Bastasch

Posted on 02/23/2017 7:55:36 PM PST by markomalley

First Daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband, White House senior adviser Jared Kushner, intervened to get a pending executive order stripped of language critical of an international climate agreement signed by President Barack Obama.

Kushner and Ivanka “intervened to strike language about the climate deal from an earlier draft of the executive order,” sources familiar with the matter told The Wall Street Journal.

Ivanka and her husband “have been considered a moderating influence on the White House’s position on climate change and environmental issues,” WSJ reports. Now, the executive order will have no mention of the so-called Paris agreement.

President Donald Trump is expected to sign two executive orders in the coming days to begin dismantling Obama’s Climate Action Plan and other costly environmental regulations. The orders reportedly target the Clean Power Plan (CPP), a moratorium on new coal mining leases, and the “Waters of the U.S.” rule.

Trump promised to withdraw from the Paris agreement and stop global warming payments to the U.N. while on the campaign trail. But Trump’s opposition to Obama’s climate agenda seems to be running up against his daughter’s plans.

WSJ noted the “move is the latest sign of influence Mr. Trump’s daughter and Mr. Kushner have in a White House that has seen internal divisions on a variety of issues, including foreign policy.”

A source close to Ivanka told Politico in December she “wants to make climate change — which her father has called a hoax perpetuated by the Chinese — one of her signature issues,” adding that “Ivanka is in the early stages of exploring how to use her spotlight to speak out on the issue.”

Ivanka and her father both met with former Vice President Al Gore, a global warming crusader, just days after Politico’s report. It’s unclear what was discussed at Trump Tower that day.

Nearly 200 nations signed onto the the U.N. agreement in Paris in 2015. The agreement went into effect in November, and Obama unilaterally committed to cut U.S. emissions 26 to 28 percent by 2025.

Trump may also be receiving pressure to stay in the Paris agreement from Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who told lawmakers during his confirmation hearing he thought the U.S. should keep their seat at the negotiating table.

Tillerson backed a carbon tax while CEO of ExxonMobil.

If Trump kept the U.S. in the Paris agreement, it would likely be a symbolic gesture. One of the executive orders Trump is expected to soon sign requires the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to withdraw the CPP.

The Obama administration saw the CPP as its main tool to comply with the Paris agreement. The EPA estimates the CPP would have cut carbon dioxide emissions from power plants 32 percent by 2030.

The CPP is one of several EPA rules being challenged by dozens of states in federal court. The Supreme Court issued a stay against the CPP in 2016, but an executive order could render a court challenge moot.

Ha! So true!

(And and her husband Jared, now a senior advisor, is a lifelong Manhattan Democrat...)

Actually, she is a registered independent, from what I recall reported at the time of the NY primary.

Climate change? Women’s purportedly unequal pay? Massive new entitlements for couples earning up to $500K? She’s a billionaire version of what you fear.

Dubious of Ivanka’s influence over these matters.

Tax cuts are never a bad thing, Writing off taxes with expenses for child care is already itemized and it sounds like she wants to expand it.

Lowering taxes everywhere and in large amounts is what the President is committed to in addition to repatriating more than 20 Trillion that are presently parked offshore.

There is going to be an economic boom that is awesome.

I like her involvement with coordinating groups to make manufacturing jobs more attractive to young workers. That falls right in line with what the President has been campaigning on since day one.

As for climate accords, I haven’t seen the final orders from the President yet. I have seen his statements that he thinks Man-Made Climate Change is BS (which it is) and he has been defunding such climate change efforts left over from the Obama years.

So as for Ivanka’s influence on the scam known as man-made global warming or climate change, I don’t see her reversing her father’s commitment and promise to dismantle that scam.

We’ll have to wait and see the final orders that the President issues. But there should be no dount that the President will keep his promises.

As for Ivanka’s involvement with the White House and her father, she is highly favored and because of that she has special privileges. She may even be the first woman president someday. We will see how she develops politically before the voting public.

The Trump Administration is supposed to have a honeymoon but everyone including some who claim to be conservative are doing their damnedest to make the transition rocky. The President does not even have all his cabinet picks confirmed yet. That is intolerable!

Yet the President has accomplished so much in so little time, and without a fully fielded team, that he should be given full trust and credit to keep going. His performance and work ethic seem almost supernatural.

Keep people posted though about what you find. It’s good to point out potential red flags.

Tax cuts should be simple and across the board, not riddled with carve outs and special deals, including for premium private child care for couples making half a million a year. Trump won the nomination on a simple and fair tax cut proposal that reduced loopholes, didn’t expand them. To “pay for a half trillion giveaway as Ivanka is pushing, Congress is looking at a VAT-like BAT that will hill low income people hardest, while Ivanka’s massive entitlement—and that is what she is proposing, even though it will be done through the tax code—is IMO criminal.

What is more, she is holding up the entire tax cut package with her massive new entitlement. That pushes back the ability to implement the fair lower tax rates (and fair lower tax rates are what are stimulative to the economy, not massive new entitlements) this year. That pushes back the impact on the economy beyond what will be helpful in time for the 2018 elections—which puts the GOP majority in Congress at risk.

She is impeding, not abetting, tax cuts!

And of course she’s mucking up climate change by making it one of her “signature issues”—she’s a liberal!

God help us if she is ever president!!!

Ivanka is becoming ever more irritating.

An unelected feminist with undue influence on the President; completely unaccountable to We the People. It does not bode well for an America longing to return to its Constitutional roots.

Is this transferring power from Washington back to the people, as indicated during the inauguration speech? I think not.

We need relief from the poison of liberalism. Period.

I used to admire Ivanka but she is wrong on some big things. Cheap daycare will HURT CIVILIZATION, not help it. And there is nothing humans can do about the sun. NOTHING.

Too much conjecture on Ivanka as a subversive on his deal. Let’s wait and see how it plays out.

That’s nice - wouldn’t have made the news if anyone but Trump were President - just more concern-troll bait.

What Trump should do is open up a robust debate with all scholars and no damn bullying of different opinions.

Let’s see data, facts and analysis. Let the nation learn something, that the science is not done!!

agreed. I never voted for her, and don’t want her no where near policy issues. She can keep her liberal views in NY City and run her business.

In the VIP section as his guest, when he reportedly was worried about retiring if Trump were to replace him with an actual conservative, and there the liberal Ivanka shows up as his special guest. Nothing definitive, I’m just guessing what she’s up to considering the rest of her liberal meddling.

But you ignore all the clearly leftist initiatives that she’s foisting on us—as demonstrated by the links I included.

One more thing I haven’t seen mentioned - the more Ivanka is allowed to lobby Congress for, the more she uses up political capital that is needed for legitimate purposes, namely, repeal of 0bamacare, solving the illegal problems (deport and eliminate incentives to come here illegally in the first place, eliminate Common Core.

Getting rid of 0bamacare and Common Core alone will take up enormous amounts of political capital.

Equal pay for females is a phony issue - if this inequality existed there would be lawsuits galore with multi-million dollar settlements, as there are already laws upon laws on the books now. Gloria Allred herself would be a billionaire.

Frankly, I’m surprised the President allows her to perpetuate the lie.

I see the priorities as 1) removing illegals, 2) cutting the size of government and 3) cutting taxes.

But yeah, she is an absolute disaster every day she is involved. Lots of independent-types are concerned about the nepotism/self-dealing claim against Trump and having his favorite kid and her spouse quasi-running the admin is a disaster—especially in reality and also in appearance.
