First Daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband, White House senior adviser Jared Kushner, intervened to get a pending executive order stripped of language critical of an international climate agreement signed by President Barack Obama.
Kushner and Ivanka “intervened to strike language about the climate deal from an earlier draft of the executive order,” sources familiar with the matter told The Wall Street Journal.
Ivanka and her husband “have been considered a moderating influence on the White House’s position on climate change and environmental issues,” WSJ reports. Now, the executive order will have no mention of the so-called Paris agreement.
President Donald Trump is expected to sign two executive orders in the coming days to begin dismantling Obama’s Climate Action Plan and other costly environmental regulations. The orders reportedly target the Clean Power Plan (CPP), a moratorium on new coal mining leases, and the “Waters of the U.S.” rule.
Trump promised to withdraw from the Paris agreement and stop global warming payments to the U.N. while on the campaign trail. But Trump’s opposition to Obama’s climate agenda seems to be running up against his daughter’s plans.
WSJ noted the “move is the latest sign of influence Mr. Trump’s daughter and Mr. Kushner have in a White House that has seen internal divisions on a variety of issues, including foreign policy.”
A source close to Ivanka told Politico in December she “wants to make climate change — which her father has called a hoax perpetuated by the Chinese — one of her signature issues,” adding that “Ivanka is in the early stages of exploring how to use her spotlight to speak out on the issue.”
Ivanka and her father both met with former Vice President Al Gore, a global warming crusader, just days after Politico’s report. It’s unclear what was discussed at Trump Tower that day.
Nearly 200 nations signed onto the the U.N. agreement in Paris in 2015. The agreement went into effect in November, and Obama unilaterally committed to cut U.S. emissions 26 to 28 percent by 2025.
Trump may also be receiving pressure to stay in the Paris agreement from Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who told lawmakers during his confirmation hearing he thought the U.S. should keep their seat at the negotiating table.
Tillerson backed a carbon tax while CEO of ExxonMobil.
If Trump kept the U.S. in the Paris agreement, it would likely be a symbolic gesture. One of the executive orders Trump is expected to soon sign requires the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to withdraw the CPP.
The Obama administration saw the CPP as its main tool to comply with the Paris agreement. The EPA estimates the CPP would have cut carbon dioxide emissions from power plants 32 percent by 2030.
The CPP is one of several EPA rules being challenged by dozens of states in federal court. The Supreme Court issued a stay against the CPP in 2016, but an executive order could render a court challenge moot.
That’s how I see it. He doesn’t have to throw us red meat. He is the President and he can take action. It’s not like he is a community activist or something. Let him keep his head down, motivate his people within and outside of government, and do his job.
Ivanka, the climate has been fluctuating/changing for BILLIONS of years on the Earth. NONE of those fluctuations have been caused by humans! Please don't allow yourself to drift into gullibility & bubbleheadedness.

Yup, I have yet to see anything to suggest that either Ivanka or Jared is the least bit conservative politically. They may be good people as “liberals” go, ha ha, but they certainly cannot be trusted to support conservative aims in this administration.

And she has got her dad in with her on another idea of hers, which was a meeting on human trafficking:

“Ivanka has previously met with some of the groups participating today and suggested the meeting to the President who agreed immediately. It is such an important issue on both sides of the aisle and there is a real opportunity to make a difference,” the official said.
Trump was joined by her father, as well as senior advisers Dina Powell, Stephen Miller and Hope Hicks, and representatives from 10 organizations, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, United Way and THORN. The President thanked Powell and his daughter for their work setting up the session, saying he is prepared to use the full force and weight of the government to solve the problem of human trafficking.
Thursday’s meetings come as Trump has slowly ramped up her appearances, but White House spokesman Sean Spicer no “formal” West Wing role is immediately forthcoming.
“No, nothing more than you’ve seen now,” he said when asked about it at his daily press briefing. “There (are) areas that she’s cared very passionately about before ... her father coming to the White House. And now that her father is in the White House, she continues to seek a platform that helps empower and lift up women and give them opportunities.””
It makes me want to puke. Trump might as well set up a White House office for Bill De Blasio on “New Leftist Ways to Spend Trillions of Taxpayer Dollars”.
Be careful here. She may have stripped language that was critical of the accords but left the rescinding language in.
Obama had no business signing an agreement which amounted to a trade treaty (carbon credits) or was a prelude to one. President Trump can rescind the agreement because it was not in accordance with US Law. It is not necessary to criticize it, it is only necessary to draw attention to its unlawful issuance.
If the story is true, Ivanka and Jared may be helping the President to sidestep unnecessary flare-ups that distract from other issues near and dear to the Kushner’s such as Israel.

What do you want to bet she is there striking a deal that if Kennedy retires this year (apparently already his plan from back in the fall) she’ll be sure to get Daddy to appoint another moderate so it won’t change the balance of the court?
Yes , I don’t like the Ivanka having so much influence .. She seems like a very nice well meaning person , but she is definitely left of center w/ progressive tendencies. She grew up too affluent to have avoided the influence of the limousine liberal causes like : climate change, globalism , etc ..

I agree, and I've been worried about this as well. Jared and Ivanka have never been anything close to conservative. I know Jared's a Democrat, and -- last I heard -- Ivanka couldn't vote in the NY GOP primary because she either wasn't registered to vote, or she was registered as a democRAT.
