The Writing Center at the University of Washington is telling students that expecting Americans to use proper grammar perpetuates racism.
A press release put out by the University of Washingtons Writing Center argues that there is no inherent standard of English, and that pressure to conform to proper American grammar standards perpetuate systems of racism.
Linguistic and writing research has shown clearly for many decades that there is no inherent standard of English, claims the writing centers statement. Language is constantly changing. These two facts make it very difficult to justify placing people in hierarchies or restricting opportunities and privileges because of the way people communicate in particular versions of English.
The universitys Writing Center Director, Dr. Asoa Inoue, suggests that racism has produced certain unfair standards in education.
It is a founding assumption that, if believed, one must act differently than we, the institution and its agents, have up to this point, Inoue claimed. While overt racism is usually easily identified, more elusive are microaggressions, forms of degradation which manifest on a subconscious and casual level. As the statement reads Racism is pervasive. It is in the systems, structures, rules, languages, expectations, and guidelines that make up our classes, school, and society.

“I do research that investigates racism in writing assessments (e.g. writing programs, writing placement, etc.), which includes classroom writing assessments. About half of my work is theoretical,” I think I have found the problem. Without finding racism in writing, he is a failure.

Regardless of premise, the sentence structure used by Dr. Inoue in this Press Release is flawless and therefore adheres to all the "proper American grammar standards."
My only conclusion is that Dr. Inoue himself must be racist and is so dumb that he has hoisted himself on his own petard.
It is racist of the University of Washington to assume that ethnic minorities are incapable of using standard American English. This is a good example of what George W. Bush would have called “the soft bigotry of low expectations.”
Asserting that a particular race of people are too stupid to learn the normal grammar of English, is what is Racist.
That's what they did with Obama.
Sho nuff
Just to keep up, don’t the Brits think that WE butchered their language?
"Flawless"? Sorry, this guy had his Content-Free Sentence Generator set to Sporkweasel.
What is the subject of this sentence? What is the verb?
How about they just post a list of stuff that isn’t rayciss?
these people need to be removed... permanently..
What is the subject of this sentence? What is the verb?
Quite obviously you are a racist.
Totally. I’m also a snob, and I can tell you that someone who writes “differently than” is trying way too hard.
The point is clear communication with others. Precision and consistancy in grammar sharpens ideas. Everyone speaks from the same rule book and can understand one another better.
Imagine the confusion when one or two members of the group start speaking with nonsense pronouns to hide meaning or create sentences that jumble word relationships.
Univ. of Washington is turning into he land of Babel.
I am signing up for Caveman 101 in the Fall semester so I can learn to speak and not offend.
It won't be long now until the "antifas" folks start burning those books in big bonfires to the cheers of their fellow boko harum colleagues and the nodding approval of the msm.
