Greenwald: What ‘Deep State’ Is Doing To Trump Is ‘A Prescription For Destroying Democracy’
Townhall ^ | February 21, 2017 | By Matt Vespa

The Intercept’s Glenn Greenwald is no conservative, but he’s also not someone to give fellow liberals and progressives a pass over their actions that he feels threatens democracy and transparency in government. For starters, he found it interesting that liberals all of a sudden think that leaks are awesome since they’re making it harder for the Trump White House to govern. Cortney wrote about this hypocrisy, where Greenwald said on CNN’s Reliable Sources how the Obama administration declared war on the press first, that more leakers were prosecuted under the 1917 Espionage Act under Obama than all previous administrations combined, and there was a strong consensus among Democrats that anyone who leaks classified information is a villain. Greenwald added that the Obama White House established the rhetorical and legal framework.

At the same time, Greenwald also described the deep state's actions concerning the leaks emanating from the Trump administration as dangerous. For days, there’s been heavy speculation that America’s intelligence network is purposefully leaking classified information to damage the Trump White House. Greenwald calls that a prescription for the destruction of democracy. There’s a difference between leaking something to expose government malfeasance and leaking information because your candidate lost an election. To make matters worse, Greenwald considers these actions by the intelligence community against the Trump administration to be akin to a soft coup. He’s not a fan of the CIA or the American intelligence community since he faults them for having a history of war crimes and atrocities, but leaving out that commentary and his antipathy for the president—he nails it on the head: unelected intelligence operatives are undermining a democratically elected president. . .

The Democrats and the rest of the left from near to far have no use for democracy once they take power as they had expected to do in November. If they can get rid of Trump and maybe Pence and install one of their tame Republicans they will complete their Revolution and there will be no more of what we believe to be democracy.

The actions of the "press" or the media, as we know it today, are much more to the point, IMHO. I think Google leads the way. Who is more powerful than Google? ... and they move like quicksilver. I find it frightening, now that it is here in front of me.

Thankfully, ours is not democracy. Our government is republican, that is to be exact, a representitive republic. The founders specifically rejected democracy, along with socialism as failures.

I’ll bet, if you looked hard enough, you could find all kinds of illegal activity being conducted by the CIA. just sayin’.

Although I agree with your dislike for socialism, our founding fathers had quite a socialist bend.

No, they did not. Quoting PBS about the founding fathers is like seeing a plumber to fix a cavity. Not a good source. I prefer to read the founders own writings, no to socialism.

The way you deal with a deep state is, you purge it!

Sorry for referencing the other side of the North Pole.

I agree that the current rejection of Trump is dangerous in the long term, and I expect a comparable or even stronger response to the next democrat. It may be implemented differently, but we are very likely to reject the legitimacy of the next democrat’s actions. Their actions will certainly be unconstitutional (outside the enumerated powers, and in violation of the 8th, 1st, 2nd, 9th and 10th Amendments), just as democrats are rejecting President Trump because they claim he’s rude or violating norms.

The solution? Civil war - eventually. Both sides have to be more tired of fighting than we are angry about the other side. Given the level of evil and intolerance among the Ctrl-Left, I am skeptical that anything short of a shooting war would end this. I hope I’m wrong, but I’ve been hoping this would not escalate since the days of bill Clinton, and I never get my wish.

I might argue that if there is a ‘deep state’ that is this deeply ingrained with this caliber of power; That your ‘democracy’ is already expired.

Oh good grief.

You are woefully mistaken. Individual liberty, the guiding principal of the Founders, is antithetical to socialism.

Give every "Deep State" traitor their own cell in a Supermax prison - for about 25 years.

The Deep State doesn’t stop at Intelligence. It’s Treasury (Lois Lerner-types) and Law Enforcement (Comey and minions) and State and toher departments.

If you’ve ever wondered what Obama’s below statement was about, now you know. Explains why many of the federal government alaphabet organizations are arming up to the hilt.....

“We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”

The Left is godless, immoral, and full of hate. They are truly the enemy of America and everything good it was founded upon. They are bringing war to our country. We’re in the early stages of it now. I pray God brings us more great leaders like Trump to inspire us to victory.
