Trump to exclude U.S. 'dreamer' migrants from crackdown

U.S. President Donald Trump's administration plans to consider almost all illegal immigrants subject to deportation, but will leave protections in place for immigrants known as "dreamers" who entered the country illegally as children, according to official guidelines released on Tuesday.

The Department of Homeland Security guidance to immigration agents is part of a broader plan for border security and immigration enforcement in executive orders that Trump signed on Jan. 25.

Former President Barack Obama issued an executive order in 2012 that protected 750,000 immigrants who had been brought into the United States illegally by their parents. Trump has said the issue is "very difficult" for him.

The Republican president campaigned on a pledge to get tougher on the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in the United States, playing on fears of violent crime while promising to build a wall on the border with Mexico and to stop potential terrorists from entering the country....

If this is true, than Trump loses my support. A good number of these “dreamers” are gang bangers.

Well then your support is pretty easy to lose. ;) Give him some time.

Yes, but Trump is so far ahead of anyone else we could have had hope of following through on illegal immigration, we really have no choice but to wait and hope he doesn’t buckle—though it looks like he has buckled.

DACAs and anchor baby parents are probably the two most important populations to crack down on in order to deter further inflow, but they are the two so far not included.

Maybe he’ll get there and is just avoiding the immediate flashpoint reaction to his greater enforcement. (Though yes, I do fear it is a sellout compromise.)

Speaking of sellout compromises, I want to see Priebus and all the GOPe he’s brought into the administration as a form of chain migration expelled from the WH more than anything.

After living in the destruction that illegal immigration has inflicted on SoCal I’m not happy about any exceptions to booting them all back to their home countries ASAP.

In my experience there is no bigger group of entitled ingrates than illegal aliens and their progeny. If you are expecting gratitude from them you are looking in the wrong place. You owe them, and any concession that you make is never enough. The idea of the Noble Illegal is a steaming pile of .....

I suspect that excluding the “dreamers” is calculated to split the opposition to enforcing the law on everyone else. It removes the sob-sister, sympathy element (notice how there never is any sympathy for the Americans whose neighborhoods are ruined by illegal immigration. You don’t count).

Hey Mexico! You’d better add more cars to the Beast, because you’re about to get swamped with “children” wanting rides to the U.S. border!

(If true...)

DACA is a deferral. Quit adding new ones and let it expire.

I suspect Trump will use DACA as a bargaining chip in the advancement of immigration legislation. DACA is the one instance that the majority of Americans appear to support. It will be very difficult politically to take away legal status from the 800,000 who have already received legalization, including work permits and SSNs. A number of states have also issued them driver’s licenses.

Obama acted unconstitutionally setting up this program. And it sets a terrible precedent. Nowhere does the EO say that you had to be brought here by your illegal parents. You just have to get here by age 15. It is the reason why we had a flood of unaccompanied children flooding the borders. Once they got here, they were reunited with relatives. Obama even helped fund the travel of the parents from the home country to the US in the name of family reunification. In addition, he ordered ICE not to pursue the parents of DACA recipients for deportation. When you reward something, you get more of it.

Trump must end the DACA program. He can say that each current DACA recipient will be reviewed individually and lay out criteria that will allow most of them to stay. I hate to say that given the unconstitutional actions of Obama and the unfairness it provides for people who violated our laws. But I am a realist politically, knowing that given the numbers involved and the status of public opinion, it would make more sense to deal with this fait acompli in a way that does not alienate public support for the rest of his immigration policies. The GOP cowards in Congress should have fought this tooth and nail in 2012, but the fact is that people like Cantor and Ryan were planning on introducing a GOP version of the Dream Act.

Trump should end the program on a date certain and then deal with those who have the status, presumably at the time they have to renew. He should ensure that it is done on a case by case basis rather than dealing with a class of people, as is currently the case. Many of the existing “Dreamers” are in their 20s. You could be up to 31 to apply under the current rules. They are no longer children.

Fake headline. I watched the press conference and that’s not what was said at all. They asked him if this meant that you wouldn’t go after dreamers and he said, no that’s not what it means at all. Also, in his broader answer he said if you want the laws changed then you have to get the laws passed. More misleading if not outright fake news. Don’t ever judge Trump on a newspaper article. See what was actually done and or said first

I’m ok with this policy. Obama used children to up the illegal count but if a kid came here, even middle school, this is their home and it’s not their fault.

Conversely I hope Trump makes it clear these people are never eligible for benefits or voting unless they go through the process. Also, dreamers or not, they should pay taxes and obey laws or go back.

It's Rooters and in any event, `excluding them from crackdown' could mean he considers them a lower priority than repeat Mexican criminals and gangbanging cholos and El Salvadoran MS-13s. “Dreamers” - an offensive perversion of “American dream” - are the very persons to make an example of.

The clear message must be: don’t ruin your children’s prospects by illegally bringing them into the United States.

These illegal aliens, more than any others, must be permanently prohibited from entering the United States for any purpose.

Adult illegal aliens can be deported once, if found here after illegally entering again: executed.

Spicer said if they are gang bangers or breaking the law in other ways they go.

If you break the law you cannot renew your dreamers status so this a bogus concern. Any DACA that get caught in a criminal act are toast.

You need to walk before you can run. Trump has said he is triaging. Let’s get the wall built, as many criminal aliens and welfare cheats as we can out. Then the next phase can begin.

I believe Spicer has previously used the words “not a priority” . I believe this is the correct way forward for the sake of politics.

If he does this it can’t apply to any new arrivals. Also we need to seal the border and start sending some millions back. I’d have some sympathy for an adult who was raised here from a very young age - but not much.

Stop believing the lies. Watch the briefing. This is not at all what was said. It’s pretty close to the exact opposite of what was said. It’s ridiculous that they are so dishonest. Even people here believe them and get fooled. Your default position should be to disbelieve them now...
