John McCain suggests on Meet the Press that President Trump is “suppressing” the free press, which is “the first thing that dictators do.”
“If you want to preserve — I’m very serious now — if you want to preserve democracy as we know it, you have to have a free and many times adversarial press,” McCain said in the interview. “And without it, I am afraid that we would lose so much of our individual liberties over time. That’s how dictators get started.”
The American press is “many times adversarial,” i.e., it is adversarial when we have a Republican in the White House.
“They get started by suppressing free press, in other words, a consolidation of power — when you look at history, the first thing that dictators do is shut down the press,” McCain said. “And I’m not saying that President Trump is trying to be a dictator. I’m just saying we need to learn the lessons of history.”
John, John, get a grip! Who is “suppressing” the press? Do you seriously not understand the difference between criticizing the press and suppressing it? The press is not above criticism. On the contrary, it deserves to be called out constantly for bias and inaccuracy. President Trump has taken a good step in that direction, but a great deal more press criticism is in order.
Also: not calling on CNN in a White House press conference does not constitute “suppressing” CNN.

IMO, McCain is an abuser. I’ve seen video of him verbally abusing people on a plane. I think it was media—I hate them, too. No excuse for verbal abuse. They were female.
I’d bet good money that Cindy has suffered abuse by McCain, at least verbal and emotional.
He is not a good man on any level.
Which also was the same press that sang his praises whenever he acted as a burr under the saddle of the republicans during the Bush presidency. McCain was such a fool he actually thought the press would treat him the same once he became the republican nominee. He thought the press applauded him because they agreed with him.

I have posted this on several sites and tweeted it... what POTUS said was that very fake news or fake news is the enemy of the people. He is absolutely right!! When the media is pumping out untruths day after day, hour after hour and giving people the wrong information, lie after lie - THAT is the stuff that dictators are made of!!!! Tigerseye, what do you call someone who has lost 5 military aircraft. John McCain is one of the few who has achieved that dubious honor in modern times. if one does a “Google” search of “McCain hot start” and you will come up with 1,450,000 links that start with two that I put links to below. If you want to be John McCain’s biggest defender, you have your work cut out for you. There are a large number of people who feel that McCain did not follow proper procedures and contributed to or may have been largely responsible for the Forestall Fire.
Most military pilots who have lost 5 airplanes are considered either very unlucky or they have a careless or inept pattern of behavior that makes them unqualified to continue to be a pilot. Whether or not McCain’s actions had something to do with the Forrestal fire could probably be debated for a long time. But the fact remains that he lost 5 aircraft during his career, a number during the time period in question that would have grounded any pilot whose father and grandfather were not admirals.
At this point we have another 40 years of performance to evaluate whether McCain is unlucky or dangerous. Most reasonable people would conclude that his pattern of behavior made him dangerous as a pilot and even more dangerous as a politician.
