On Friday the U.S. Ambassador to Somalia, Stephen Schwartz, presented a gift to the new President of Somalia, a hat that reads “Make Somalia Great Again.”
Ambassador Schwartz was appointed by former President Barack Obama and was sworn into his position in June 2016 according to the International Business Times.
Reactions to this gesture on twitter were overwhelmingly negative because let’s face it: Somalia has never been great.

And this turd Schwartz wasn’t ashamed to brazenly rip off Trump’s slogan and use it for Somalia? Trump should have copyrighted the phrase. What a complete and utter moron this Schwartz is. Get rid of him!

All the politically appointed ones. This ambassador is a career diplomat. Most ambassadors are.
I don't think copyright would extend to every similar phrase.
In any case, I don't see anything wrong with using it. I hear all kinds of ads on the radio about making X great again.
I am sure Trump will appoint an ambassador who is an adult.

Somalia wasn’t always the nightmare you see now. And if you are going to take it over, you can either continue with things the way they are and just try to suck it dry as warlord-in-chief, or you can actually set about to rebuild it, drive out or coopt the barbarian hordes, and try to do something with it. It wouldn’t be easy, but if this is the challenge that has fallen into your lap, what else better have you got to do?
President Trump accepted the resignation of all Ambassadors who were political appointees. The career Foreign Service officer in ambassador positions stay in their positions until their tour is up, generally 2 or 3 years.
Where political appointees were “fired” the Embassy number 2, Deputy Chief of Mission steps up to be temporary Ambassador or charge’ until president Trump’s nominee is confirmed. This happens every change of administration.
Isn’t the Ambassador to Somalia position some kind of punishment? Does it require having to actually GO there?
Hey, that’s fine by me. Somalia is going to need all of its people to help make that happen. We have a couple hundred thousand scattered across our country, thanks to Julian Castro and former president O’Traitor. We volunteer to send them back, to make Somalia great again.
If I were Trump I’d leave him in his post. I’d just call the funny man’s security detail home. Who’s laughing now funny man?
