With a growing number of Democrats openly questioning President Trump’s mental health. Justifying their questions by pointing to Trump’s habit of making demonstrably false claims. And now that narrative has grown louder as CNN's State of The Union just discussed invoking the 25th Amendment unless President Trump "gets a grip"

No problem ...

if a President is assassinated ... check

If a President is deemed incompetent ... check

Neither one gets the President out ... it deals with after a President is a President.

Actually, removal of a president under this provision (provided he is not really incapacitated) is harder than under the impeachment clause. Under that clause a simple majority vote in the House of Representatives is all that is required to start the process where this provision requires a two third vote in both houses.

There are a number of very disappointed people who are flailing about looking for some magical way to reverse their clash with reality and it will take some time for things to settle down. The real professionals on both sides know President Trump is not going to be removed from office and most importantly, President Trump knows it.

The only thing I can suggest is that you read the entire amendment.

Thanks to a leftist run educational system that refuses to teach history (or civics,) a great number of young people today, every one of the believing themselves as "liberals" or "progressives," don't have the faintest idea of the term "useful idiots," or the fact that's what they are.

The think they're working for "rights for minorities," when they don't realize that the individual IS the ultimate definition of a minority. They don't realize that they're working towards a collective that won't tolerate any "diversity" of thought or beliefs.

They have no concept of what an evil empire the USSR was, nor the fact that Vlad Putin was a higher-up in the KGB. Or the fact that much of what they are supporting are policies of the USSR. One of which was to declare anyone who opposed communism mentally ill, and to lock them in so called mental hospitals. Sound familiar?

RE: The 25th amendment explains what happens AFTER a President is no longer President (for whatever reason).
It has NOTHING to do with making a President a non President.

Does anyone read English ?
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Really? It has nothing to do with making a President a non-President? We are apparently reading a different 25th Amendment.

Here are the key points from Section 4 to help you.
- The VP and a majority of the principal officers of the executive departments (or other body if Congress so approves) can transmit that to Pres ProTemp and Speaker of the House that the President is unable to discharge his duties
- VP is temporarily the acting President
- President has the right to transmit to the Pres ProTemp and Speaker his written declaration that no such inability exists. President resumes his duties. (Obviously, if he is in a coma he cannot carry out his duties and cannot transmit to Pres ProTemp and Speaker that no inability exists.)
- VP and majority of exec depts have four days to transmit to Pres ProTemp and Speaker that Pres is unable to discharge his duties.
- Both Houses assemble and if 2/3 of each body vote that the Pres cannot perform his duties, the VP is acting President and discharges all duties of the presidency.

If you are playing a semantic game and saying that the VP is only acting as Pres and the Pres, who may be in a coma or otherwise incapacitated, is still the Pres, that is a very thin argument.

Clearly, the 25th Amendment is a mechanism to remove all power from an existing President as an alternative to impeachment and conviction in the Senate. That action is for high crimes and misdemeanors, not something like being in a coma. It is a high hurdle, indeed, to use this mechanism, since it takes a 2/3 vote of both houses. In impeachment, it takes a simple majority in the House to take it to a Senate trial and a 2/3 vote there for removal.

You contradict your own argument by saying “The 25th Amendment explains what happens AFTER a President is no long President.....” So that means he is no longer a president. You are saying that he is no longer President and defeating your own argument. How was he no longer the President? Did he die? Was he impeached? No, the answer is that the mechanism of the 25th Amendment was triggered that made him so and such action transferred power to the VP. It has everything to do with making him a non-president, even if the VP is only called the “acting” President. Nowhere in the 25th Amendment does it address whether the VP takes a new oath as the President but such would be likely. After Nixon’s resignation, Ford had an inauguration and took a new oath.

I appreciate your reply doug, but I guess (and I DID read it ... and I read it as you re-iterated) I don't see the conditions articulated being in existence nor do I see any of those conditions being generated out of whole cloth.

I will concede to your explanation, I just don't think it has much meaning at this point.

Snooker is a game of wits and President Trump has snookered the democrat/socialists at every turn.

Y'can't rightly say nor prove he's out of his mind just because he mates his opponent.

The Dems and the media don’t have anything but their hatred.

Terrible for the Dems, you cannot win elections saying your plank is Hate.

Of course it is going to go nowhere. Crazies like Rosie on Twitter are hoping that this is what stops Trump. During the Clinton second term, I sad postcards and faxes and made calls to Gore people about the 25th Amendment. He could have been president. LOL But the only way I see it happening now is Trump wearing a Pussyhat and threatening to jump from the roof of Trump Tower while screaming that Putin is his best friend and Rosie is a fat pig. Of course, the Rosie part is demonstrably true.
