Cruz joins Border Patrol overnight, meets with local officials

MISSION — Hours before the president talked about “bad people with bad ideas” entering the country at a rally in Florida, a United States senator strapped on a vest, walked through the thick Rio Grande Valley brush as Friday night turned to Saturday and found what he, President Donald Trump and many discuss in Washington D.C. The senator linked the findings to organized violent crime.

“There were more than one that were large, young men with a significant percentage of tattoos that might suggest gang affiliation,” U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said Saturday afternoon, recounting an overnight ride along with Border Patrol. “I don’t know that, but those were the individuals that happened to be stopped on the patrol I was participating in.”

All of the people Cruz and the patrol encountered were apprehended, he said. But he did not encounter any families, Cruz added, which make up the majority of illegal apprehensions.

That’s only because he fit into a tiny niche in the law about children and dual citizenship.

Prior to 1977, Canada didn’t allow dual citizenship. Cruz was born in 1970.

And someone who’s been solid on FR for a decade longer than you says that Cruz is one of the good guys. The founder of this site has said that Cruz is one of the good guys. If you disagree, then maybe it’s time for you to slip over to DU.

I get so sick of these people. How many current Republican senators are more dependable than Ted Cruz? He’s one of Trump’s finest allies, yet all they do here is trash him. The campaign is over. Trump has let bygones be bygones far better than these soreheads.

Instead of flaming Cruz at ever chance, why don’t some of you spend as much time on the real problems like McCain, Graham, McConnell, and Cornyn!

***Similarly children born in Canada to non-Canadian parents were not under any obligation to renounce a foreign citizenship they had acquired by descent. Holding a foreign passport did not in itself cause loss of Canadian citizenship.***

children born in Canada to non-Canadian parents

His father was a Canadian, and so was Ted Cruz until 2014. Now, he's an illegal alien.

Correct in that his primary will come up sometime in mid 2018.
He’ll spend time being visible to the public as the primary approaches.

All those children of US GI’s left behind in Viet Nam would have liked that to be true.

And you have nothing to support your position except infantile insults.

Cruz had no passport at the age of four right? Cause he traveled on his mothers. To the US. With no CRBA. He had to apply for a passport as a teen. A bit late to establish US citizenship, but whatever.

Here is the complete excerpt from the State Dept.

“The child’s parents may choose to apply for a U.S. passport for the child at the same time that they apply for a CRBA. Parents may also choose to apply only for a U.S. passport for the child. Like a CRBA, a full validity, unexpired U.S. passport is proof of U.S. citizenship.

Parents of a child born abroad to a U.S. citizen or citizens should apply for a CRBA and/or a U.S. passport for the child as soon as possible.”

If I may make a point - THE PARENTS HAVE TO APPLY. APPLY. As in fill out a form, provide supporting documents, pay the fee. From the State Dept; “If the U.S. embassy or consulate determines that the child acquired U.S. citizenship at birth, a consular officer will approve the CRBA application and the Department of State will issue a CRBA, also called a Form FS-240, in the child’s name.”

Hence - you are wrong.

Here is Ted speaking to the newspaper about renouncing his Canadian citizenship:

“By Aaron Blake August 19, 2013

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) announced Monday evening that he will renounce his Canadian citizenship, less than 24 hours after a newspaper pointed out that the Canadian-born senator likely maintains dual citizenship.

“Now the Dallas Morning News says that I may technically have dual citizenship,” Cruz said in a statement. “Assuming that is true, then sure, I will renounce any Canadian citizenship. Nothing against Canada, but I’m an American by birth and as a U.S. senator; I believe I should be only an American.”

Article at Washington Post

How can he renounce a citizenship that he never had?

It is true via the process for children out of wedlock. There has to be evidence.
