Rand Paul: We’re very lucky John McCain’s not in charge
The Hill ^ | 2/19/17 | Alexander Bolton

Posted on 02/19/2017 9:15:12 AM PST by markomalley

Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.) ripped fellow Republican Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) on Sunday after McCain criticized President Trump’s escalating war of words with the media.

He argued that the nation is “very lucky” that Trump is president and not McCain, who won the 2008 GOP nomination but lost to Barack Obama in the general election.

Paul said that McCain’s recent criticisms of Trump are driven by his “personal dispute” with the president over foreign policy.

He added that McCain and Trump are at odds because McCain supports the wide deployment of U.S. troops to protect and promote American interests abroad while he characterized Trump’s views as closer to a realpolitik approach to foreign policy. “Everything that he says about the president is colored by his own personal dispute he’s got running with President Trump, and it should be taken with a grain of salt, because John McCain’s the guy who’s advocated for war everywhere,” Paul said on ABC’s “This Week.”

“He would bankrupt the nation. We’re very lucky John McCain’s not in charge, because I think we’d be in perpetual war,” Paul added.

McCain in an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press” warned that the suppression of a free press can lead to a dictatorial regime. He made the comments after Trump tweeted on Friday that the media is “the enemy of the American people.”

McCain has also harshly criticized Trump’s expressed respect for Russian President Vladimir Putin and his suggestion earlier this month that the United States does not have the moral authority to criticize Russia’s human rights record.

Paul said there has no effort by the Trump administration to suppress the media, noting that no legislation has been offered to curb press freedoms.

Paul argued that McCain has a history of being wrong major foreign policy questions.

“I would say John McCain’s been wrong on just about everything over the last four decades. He advocated for the Iraq War, which I think destabilized the Middle East,” he said.

“If you look at the map, there’s probably at least six different countries where John McCain has advocated for us having boots on the ground,” he added.

And take that worthless “pneumatic daughter” of yours with you. One of the few women I’ve ever seen whose breasts are larger than her head!

The GOP and citizenry needs to gang up on McLame the Traitor....he needs to STHU. He is divisive and lends aid and comfort to the enemy. Cmon AZ get rid of this #FakeGOPer. SC do the same with that effeminate Linda Gross

Its one thing to have occasional policy or personality disputes, but constantly mouthing off is nothing but fodder for the unpatriotic opposition. If anyone should realize this, it is John McCain. But his Stockholm Syndrome shows he is incapable of governing and representing AZ.

In fact, he is a huge negative. He needs to go ASAP

At this point, I have to give Rand Paul bigly kudos: not only is RP the smartest Senator in office right now, but RP almost never criticizes President Trump even when RP disagrees with him, but RP instead will simply lay out what he believes himself.

McCain needs to STFU and demonstrate some loyalty to his party and his President. You NEVER see the Democrats pull this kind of crap no matter how wretched their leader(s) might be. Practically the ONLY thing I’ve ever admired about the Democrats is their ability to circle the wagons and demonstrate loyalty to their party and their leaders, regardless of their own personal positions.

So true.
McCain’s owners keep pushing him to get us involved in more wars.

McCain is more dangerous than Obama because many were fooled by McCain . McCain is an enemy of the America people as are the media (Trump pointed this out). I watched McCain on Sunday TV. McCain was not the lesser of two evils. Maybe Obama winning was a blessing from God.

I hate to say it but you’re right. McCain would have passed amnesty, no question. The end of the USA would have come from a republican. At least one in name.

There is so much that McCain has done that is so wrong. He got into Annapolis be cause his father and grandfather were 4 star admirals. They must have been very disappointed when he graduated at the bottom of his class. His life has continued to go downhill. Just ask the families of the 134 men who were killed because of his antics.

Sometimes I don’t agree at all with Rand, not a fan of the family, but he’s 100% right on this. The only nuttier neocon in the Senate right now than McPain is his little buddy Graham. How many more trillions of dollars and dead soldiers do they think our country and our party have to give?

Take on Syria, Iran, RUSSIA, all at the same time? What are we, Lindsay Lohan?

If McCain became president in 2008, his priority would’ve been passing amnesty instead of Obamacare and in 2016 we would have seen 10 million new voters turn many red states blue.
