Trump’s Mar-a-Lago could be underwater for 210 days a year as seas rise
Guardian US ^ | Aug. 3, 2016 | Suzanne Goldenberg

Trump currently dismisses climate change as a hoax invented by China, though he has quietly sought to shield real estate investments in Ireland from its effects.

But at the Republican presidential contender’s Palm Beach estate and the other properties that bear his name in south Florida, the water is already creeping up bridges and advancing on access roads, lawns and beaches because of sea-level rise, according to a risk analysis prepared for the Guardian.

In 30 years, the grounds of Mar-a-Lago could be under at least a foot of water for 210 days a year because of tidal flooding along the intracoastal water way, with the water rising past some of the cottages and bungalows, the analysis by Coastal Risk Consulting found.

I had an idea for a way to secure a bright future for my descendants, haven't acted on it yet. If all these warmunists are serious (and most of the leaders are not, they are just scammers, but most of the useful idiots out there do believe), then I will be happy to help them out. I will purchase options to buy their soon to be underwater properties at pennies on the dollar in whatever time frame they think it will take for the property to be underwater. So, suppose you have a nice little vacation house in the keys, right on the water and worth $1 million. But the owner is a good little liberal, and it's going to be under water, right? Well, I can pay you $500 right now for the right to buy the property for $20,000 in 2050. That should be the greatest deal in the world for the owner, getting money for a property that will be worthless in just a few short years. If they believe the crap they are spewing, it should be a no-brainer for them to agree to that.

Except, when it comes right down to, even the true believers probably won't take that deal, because they know, deep down in their hearts, that their chicken little scenarios are phony.

"There are whole towns in Florida that have canals instead of streets, with houses on both sides of each canal."

Well, I've lived in Fl nearly 40 years and have not seen such a town.

Please name one or two.

Actually, this might be an advantage. If global warming is a problem, then the rising waters should just steam away, shouldn’t they? Great places for a sauna or a laundry. Some see it as a problem, others as an opportunity.

Good, this means he’ll have to spend more time at the White House reversing the liberal agenda.

I like the way you think. The offer should be made to prominent people, and their response recorded.

It would be a great Youtube video.

“water already pools in the road in front of the Trump Hollywood condos after the briefest of cloud bursts.”

This whole article is real BS! We have been on the water in Florida for over 30 years, surrounded by waterways, causeways and bridges...and boaters, who say they have not seen an inch of difference in any of the bridge clearances. And the pools of water are just the result of high water tables that don’t allow for faster drainage after fast large storms.

Complete bullshit!

Headlines with “could”, “might”, and words like them are as bad as “fake news”. They can be completely factual and still completely wrong.

For instance, I can write an article “Suzanne Goldenberg may adopt journalistic ethics future writings”. I could contact some journalism professors to get their advice for her. I’d list some generally accepted ethics of journalism she might consider. I could show some editing of her previous articles that would improve them from an ethical point of view. And even show some writers in the past have gone from “BS artist” to “ethical journalist”. Everything I’d write is true - the headline would also be BS and anyone who thinks it’s likely to happen is a fool.

Seems like LOTs of news articles these days have titles about the future. Not sure if this one was supposed to be news or opinion, but many “news” articles on “news” sections of media sites use “future titles” to publish opinion. They still call it “news” because earlier in the day they found a few professors to say it. If they are challenged, the “news/facts” are that professors said it in the recent past, which is true. It’s not the writers opinion since the statements happened. Of course the writer decided not to get opposing opinions like a journalist would. And the headline plays to future (usually biased) possibilities rather than the point that the article is about what professors/scientists/experts on one side said.

I don't live in Florida, but I can see them on Google Maps.

Naples is one.

Let's see... Looking at the Gulf coast...

Marco Island.
Hernando Beach.
Weeki Wachee Gardens.
Clearwater Beach.

You can also use Google Maps to look at Bayou Vista, near Galveston, Texas.

NOAA actual numbers - based on 50 years of records - say only 1.17 ft rise in 100 years.

Obviously, the secret computational sauce hasn't been added yet...:^)

I lived on the Florida coast for 32 years and my wife liked to go to the beach to collect shells and I can report this: every time we went to the beach, the ocean was in the same damn place it was the last time we went to the beach.
