Republican Sen. John McCain delivered a withering critique of President Donald Trump in a speech Friday that highlighted fractures within the GOP as the new administration struggles to overcome a chaotic start.
Speaking in Germany at the Munich Security Conference, McCain didnt mention the presidents name, according to the prepared text, while he lamented a shift in the United States and Europe away from the universal values that forged the Western alliance seven decades ago. McCain is the chairman of the Armed Services Committee. [ ]
McCain, who has openly quarreled with the president, said more and more of our fellow citizens seem to be flirting with authoritarianism and romanticizing it as our moral equivalent.
The senator lamented the hardening resentment we see toward immigrants, and refugees, and minority groups, especially Muslims.

When is Juan going to build the fence he promised? AZ should be ashamed
Tom Cotton needs to take Juan aside and read him the Riot Act.
I would protest going to war with any country that brought harm to “one” of our senators.
Why can’t he be charged with treason!
If they're happy and we know it stomp their feet!
I detest McCain but:
I refuse to accept that our values are morally equivalent to those of our adversaries, he said. I am a proud, unapologetic believer in the West, and I believe we must always, always stand up for it. For if we do not, who will?
***That criticism sounds more like it is directed at a certain ex-present***
Moreover, as a Freeper noted on another thread:This is a big nothing burger. The title is meant to create friction and dissension but, there is no real indictment in this bland article
Fake news... Jackasses...
There is NOTHING in American politics for the last three years that could indicate a legitimate Arizona win for this mess of a senator.
Back in his Navy days I wonder if McCain used to do this to all of his Commanding Officers?
It is not so much that “the squeaky wheel gets the most grease” but rather, “the worse wheel of the Wagon makes the most noise.”
More ranchers on the border in Arizona have been killed, robbed, are afraid to go to certain areas on their own property then any state I have heard of and McCain has done ZIP .
FU McCain
Right McCain, we should keep letting more and more Muslims from terror sponsoring countries into America because they believe in “universal values”.
I think the guy’s an idiot.
They need to get Trump’s immediate attention. Border
patrol enhancement can be done immediately and is independent fron building “The Wall”.
Juan needs to pay from his wife’s $tash for all of the military hardware he trashed.
Daddy and Grandpa had his back!
“More ranchers on the border in Arizona have been killed, robbed, are afraid to go to certain areas on their own property then any state I have heard of and McCain has done ZIP “
For sure. Additionally, our Arizonia War Hero has the worst performing VA hospital in the U.S. and what has he done about it? N-O-T-H-I-N-G! He is a shameful joke....
A few years ago I saw a talk on Book TV given by a US conservative writer (can’t remember the name) in Canada during a book tour. In the Q&A he was asked his views on Barack Obama. He said “I will not criticize the President of the United States on foreign soil”. I remember thinking how classy this was.
All the beatings over the head by the Viet Cong have taken a toll on old Juan...
There seems to be a little bad blood between the Progressive Republican John McCain and the libertarian-conservative-Populist Donald J. Trump. Can’t these fellows just resolve their differences and turn their attention to their common enemies?
Oh, my error. The only common enemy either of them has is each other.
This is a lesson on how to have two diametrically opposed political opinions while bearing similar-looking party labels.
Several things may have to be realigned so the stars may track accurately again.
McCain is still upset his boyfriend Graham didn’t win the Presidency.
