Can we please move the deluge of Catholic-related articles out of news/activism?

This morning, as has been the case for weeks now, over half of the articles have been about Catholic church inside baseball. While I'm sure that is of interest to some, it merely squeezes out stuff that is more interesting to others. While I appreciate the importance of the topics to a few, let's keep in mind that it is not at all to others. I don't want to start a flame war but the nuances of some Latin-named paper by some unknown cardinal in a village in Germany (just a hyperbolic example) are wholly unimportant to this good old Protestant. There is a specific forum for discussion of religion.

Most of the Catholic articles are about something that is relevant, whether you are Catholic or not. Articles about how the Pope is trying to give large parts of the West to leftism or to Islam. There are also plenty of Protestant articles about “Creation Science” or about the latest dispensationalist “Prophecy Update.”

Agreed. We’re being Chet99’d by the Catholic goons lately. Dump button time for BlessedBeGod and the other trolls.

I’m Catholic and I’ve gotten tired of all these articles. They are nothing more than spam at this point.

I started reading this thread, and then my phone buzzed and just SWITCHED OFF. Just saying this may be BIGGER THAN YOU THINK.

Folks, most articles are part of a bigger story of how Pope Francis is trying to turn the Catholic Church into a pro-Globalist entity. Whoever controls billions of people on this planet wields enormous power. Stop ignoring a major headwind.

and FR needs a way to stop religion forum articles showing up in latest posts and latest comments. Its not news.

No. That sections shows the lastest posting on the site. It isn't solely for news and activism, otherwise it would be called out differently. Now if you want FR to make that section configurable so one can choose what topics are shown in the latest, that would be different.

I wholeheartedly agree. As a Catholic, the only news I want to see is that Pope Francis is removed, has resigned, or has died. Also, any news on pervert priests being jailed and/or executed. Other than that...

I like seeing articles about what is going on in the Catholic Church. I do not read them all, but having them available is somehow assuring. There is a connection that is relevant for all Christians.

They should be posted in the Religion forum. That's what it's for.

All the ones I saw were in the religion forum maybe you should check your settings.

My settings are set for News/Activism and I have to scroll past numerous catholic posts every day. I couldn't care less about any story about their pope or the 'dubia'.

It’s very easy. Over at the top on the right of the screen simply choose “News/Activism” under the Browse by Post category list. You probably have “Everything” chosen.

As those of us who oppose Catholcism on the Religion Forum understand, for devout RCs, all life is meant to revolve around the RCC, whose distinctives are not even seen in the NT church of Scripture

Certain RCs therefore assume that your life also should revolve around their particular church and thus the news of it. Yet when they are not telling us we need to submit to the pope rather than ascertaining the validity of RC teaching by examining it in the light of Scripture, they are rejecting what the pope says based upon their judgment of what valid church teaching is.

And in addition, the toxic threads where Protestants and Catholics bash each other are sickening. And wicked.

Completely toxic and detrimental to conservatism. Conservative leaning people shouldn't be tearing each other apart over religious minutia.

Should we just completely ignore the "minutiae", and just be happy with the kind of fuzzy, non-denominational, theologically ignorant religion that liberals love? Make Christianity Stupid Again?

I've been here since 1998 and we've had plenty of knock-down-dragouts as well as fantastic discussions where both sides had to hone and refine their arguments. I've learned an immense amount. I've enjoyed ragging on Calvinists on one thread and then tag-teaming with them against the anti-Creedalists on others. I'd argue with the Eastern Orthodox on misunderstanding the filioque then happily call them in whenever somebody claimed to know Greek better than the Greeks. I've had to figure out what a Noahide is and then how to answer his objections against everyone else. I've had it out with a range of my own fellow Catholics--sedevacantists, SSPX folks, Novus Ordo types. I dearly miss the great old traditional Anglican posters that alerted me to what was going on the Episcopal Church in the leadup to the formation of the Ordinariate.

We are discussing ideas....and since politics is downstream of culture, most of us understand that what happens in the religious world will eventually affect what happens everywhere.

Jim--God bless him--has given us a forum here to hash those issues out--better by leaps and bounds than any forum out there. He has always stepped in when things got out of hand, but he has always allocated us the space to have our arguments.

Best to just stay out of the theology threads if you have the attitude that the arguments are "sickening" and "toxic". Many of us who frequent the Religion Forum don't share it, and it doesn't seem Jim does either.

If the Catholic articles were about Armageddon, and it was what is happening right now, I’d agre they were newsworthy.

Matters of policy and doctrine and statements about the church by cardinals, don’t qualify.

The RF was meant for that and if Catholics don’t want their articles challenged, then they can make the caucus.

I’ve long said that it’s the sound of free speech, freedom of religion and the free exchange of ideas. I don’t want to see it shut down at all, however bleeding over into News/Activism creates a problem because not all enjoy the debate and can become offended. It should remain in the RF, so those who want to read and participate can do so, and those who do not can do so as well.
