Can we please move the deluge of Catholic-related articles out of news/activism?

This morning, as has been the case for weeks now, over half of the articles have been about Catholic church inside baseball. While I'm sure that is of interest to some, it merely squeezes out stuff that is more interesting to others. While I appreciate the importance of the topics to a few, let's keep in mind that it is not at all to others. I don't want to start a flame war but the nuances of some Latin-named paper by some unknown cardinal in a village in Germany (just a hyperbolic example) are wholly unimportant to this good old Protestant. There is a specific forum for discussion of religion.

“Conservative leaning people shouldn’t be tearing each other apart over religious minutia. “ I would add Christ followers to that as well. Its an affront to Him for that to happen.

If only it was religious minutia. When you have a group of posters who hold that their particular church alone is the One True Church®, with distinctives are not even manifest in the NT church of Scripture, then we are not dealing with minor details.

Moreover, the class of RCs that have been doing the most postings are not even the propagandists who used to post provocative articles on RC doctrine (until they were repeatedly refuted, though caucus threads are still seen), but the Catholic article we regularly see today tend to be against modern Catholicism, posted by traditional RCs which reject the modern popes, or who at least attack Francis.

Of course, such also seem to long for a Catholic state and the days of the Inquisition with all its means.

My beef isn’t about articles or Catholics or Protestants.

My beef is about individual posts of any topic that are a mile long that are an annoyance to scroll through on a phone.

It is, however, my observation that the majority of these copy/paste posts happen to be on Catholic threads.

Maybe it’s just a coincidence.

I’m confused. Should this article be posted in Religion or News? Atheist middle school teacher says she feels ‘bullied’ by students saying ‘God bless you’ http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/feb/16/susan-creamer-atheist-teacher-says-she-feels-bulli/

That, if current, should be under news as it clearly pertains to the conservative stance of this forum "dedicated to defending our GOD-GIVEN rights," our "God-given and first amendment guaranteed rights to free speech, free press, free religion,.."

Whether teacher should say "May" God bless you, versus "God bless you" would be a matter for the RF.

I agree as a Catholic; I sometimes wonder who is posting the articles that leads to anti- Catholic bashing.

When you are representing/promoting a church which claims it uniquely is the one true church, to whom all are to submit, then by its very nature you are being provocative, and should expect responses accordingly. To post such and then whine about "anti- Catholic bashing" is as self-righteous as Mormon doing so.

Which is esp,. the case when the RC posters are traditional types which reject V2, and thus implicitly support Catholic theocracies and all that goes with them. We recently finished a 1,600+ thread with such.

Yes, there are tons of such threads about Amoris Laetitia, and as a Protestant, I don't even know what it is, let alone why people should be upset about it. I think many religion threads feature lots of copy/paste posts, either in the main article or in some of the responses.

The problem is that these religion forum posts show up under “latest posts” and “latest comments” It’s a bug with FR that they need to fix. The religion posts shouldn’t show up in the general population of posts.

They also show up under Latest Articles, the number of which was what i was referring to in my above post, not just those under News, which are the minority, most being under Religion.

*********************************************

Lately Free Republic has seemed more like Free Catholic Forum. Enough already most of us are not interested, restrict such posts to Religion forum or send them off to a Catholic forum site.

It is two people mostly posting these catholic Cardinal so an so said this trivia or pope did some obscure catholic thing in the catholic realm. Would be nice if this were addressed with them.....there are plenty of Catholic forum sites out there...this IS NOT one of them!

And I agree with above Freeper these threads are bumping relevant political threads off Latest Articles feed and are therefore unwelcome.

the theological and geopolitical significance of a heretical pope are profound, and will shake all of Christendom.

Nah. Business as usual, for centuries.

You’ve posted less than 40 articles on FR since your join date. Most have been vanities.
Since August 25, 2015 you’ve posted 100 comments which includes a couple of articles.
Sit back and enjoy the forum and don’t get riled about how things are going. Pick and
choose your articles to read and participate in and let others enjoy their selections.
Take care.

Well I must admit I have been looking at “Everything” so it’s certainly fair that I have been seeing all of those posts. I didn’t notice that before. Looking through a few pages of News/Activism I don’t see any. I’ll probably update my bookmark.

I don’t think it’s such a big deal, mostly (to me) the issue is reading through on an often-slow phone connection and tiny screen it can seem like the subject posts use up a lot of bandwidth and real estate.

To note the difference between most of these catholic threads and Christian (referred to as Protestant by some) threads.

Threads that are about God and scripture have revelance to many here but deacon so and so of the southern baptists tabling a motion to change Baptist creed on some traditional vs contemporary teaching or doctrine is not revelant. This is repeatedly being done by a few catholics here posting threads on RCC internal politics, RCC doctrine or the nuances of some Latin phrase neither men or God care one itoa about.

It has been my experience that if I click on “News/Activism” under “Browse by Forum,” posts and comments from the Religion Forum do not show up.

I am not taking a stand against the Catholics in the forum.

It would be a great up grade to the “view” function if we could pick which forums we would like to see in “latest posts or articles.”

I like most threads and I enjoy the variety. My issue with some of the religious threads is they tend to be heavy with graphics and the postings are often done in bunches, which takes forever to scroll through on a phone.

Again, I am not flaming the Catholics, or anyone else. Its a forum function. But, in relative terms...its an irritation.

True. I remember one “too much Catholic stuff” thread that went over 500 posts.

I am Standing By in Orlando. There’s a gate agent now. I will see if he will give me a boarding pass.

If you think it looks bad on your phone, you should hear it on the radio.

There is a radio station near Pittsburgh that airs this stuff all day.

"And in addition, the toxic threads where Protestants and Catholics bash each other are sickening."

And as a Freemason, I could do without being told I'm an evil heretic that's destined for eternal damnation.

This really isn't the place for religious debate and proselytizing, except to discuss religion in the context of political persecution.

What the current Pope is up to is of great interest to many people and to me. I think papal and Vatican/Catholic news is of such importance in this present time in history that it deserves its own forum other than being submerged in "latest posts", "latest articles", etc.

Therefore, I agree with the original poster's suggestion.

That is the issue. Free Republic does not include the option to exclude any forums when choosing a topic. So our options are to either choose one forum at a time or choose a topic and scroll past those posts that we do not want to read.
