President Donald Trump is set to announce Alexander Acosta as his new pick to head the Department of Labor, less than a day after his first choice for the job, Andy Puzder, withdrew from consideration.

Acosta served as assistant attorney general for the Civil Rights Division under President George W. Bush, selected by the president in August 2003. Acosta was a member of the National Labor Relations Board and also served as Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Rights Division. Most recently, he was the dean of Florida International University College of Law.

If confirmed, Acosta would be the first Hispanic in Trump's cabinet.

One case Acosta oversaw during his time in this position involved Ali Shaygan, a doctor who was accused of illegally prescribing painkillers. ..

That would only buy him points if he were a Dim! After all, if Trump appoints him he must be a nefarious weasel (according to Putz Schumer!)

Of note: http://heavy.com/news/2017/02/alexander-acosta-donald-trump-labor-secretary-national-relations-board-assistant-attorney-general-civil-rights-justice-department-muslims-southern-district-florida-dean-international-university/

In 2011, Acosta testified before Congress about the importance of protecting the civil rights of Muslim Americans. He said to the committee that “we are a nation build [sic] on principles of freedom, and high on the list of freedoms is freedom of religious expression. Indeed, as is well known to this Committee, this freedom pre-dates our Constitution.”

Acosta spoke about a variety of cases he has dealt with involving the civil rights of Muslims, including one instance where he instructed the Justice Department to intervene when a young girl was asked to take off her hijab in school. He goes on to talk about the importance of the president speaking up to defend Muslims.

“Our nation is strong because we respond to attack with resolve,” he said. “History has shown the need, however, for leadership that tempers resolve with wisdom. President George W. Bush understood this, when on September 17, 2001, he visited the Islamic Center of Washington D.C. to remind a resolute nation that ‘[t]hose who feel like they can intimidate our fellow citizens to take out their anger…should be ashamed of that kind of behavior.’ This was not the message many Americans wanted to hear at that time, but the President chose to lead, rather than to be led.”

I must be feeling merciful today, but I’m not too concerned about Acosta’s comments. They are reasonable. So long as we are respectful as we deport and deny entry, I’m cool.

“NO! You MAY NOT ENTER the United States!..... sir.”

So this guy fights for civil rights for Muslims and sued a Swiss bank to hand over names of American clients? So I guess Muslims can proceed to use employers for prayer rooms and breaks centered around their need to pray, and they can get a job that requires contact with dogs, pork and alcohol and then turn around and sue the employer for asking them to do their job?

I think some of our senators need to ask him his stand on these issues.

It’s NBC.

Until I hear it from a reliable source, I’m not going to get all wrapped around the axle about the traitorous POS.

And a Hispanic. If he was a supporter of BLM, he would be perfect for the leftists. I want a labor Secretary that fights for equal rights for all Americans.

I don't see anything in Wiki (sorry) that mentions the Muslim civil rights thing. MSNBC? Nor do I see anything in the linked article. He worked for Alito as a law clerk.

Twice named nation’s 50 most influential Hispanics by Hispanic Business Magazine. I take back the "not winning" jab.
