'Telephone terrorism' has rattled 48 Jewish centers. Is anyone paying attention?

(CNN)Samantha Taylor was at Orlando's Jewish Community Center for a morning meeting when she heard reports of a bomb threat crackle from the director's walkie-talkie. Her daughter attends preschool there; she ran to the classroom and evacuated with the students and teachers. While police and bomb-sniffing dogs searched the building for several hours, the teachers kept the children calm and happy at a safe spot down the street, Taylor said. No explosives were found.

On the same day, January 4, an Orlando Chabad center also received a threatening call, marking the first trickle in what would soon swell to waves of calls menacing Jewish institutions across the country.

In all, 48 JCCs in 27 states and one Canadian province received nearly 60 bomb threats during January, according to a count by CNN. Most were made in rapid succession on three days: January 9, 18 and 31. A number of JCCs, including Orlando's, received multiple threats. In a statement, the FBI said the bureau and the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division are "investigating possible civil rights violations in connections with threats to Jewish Community Centers across the country."

"I've been in the business for 20-plus years, and this is unprecedented," said Paul Goldenberg, national director of the Secure Community Network, which advises Jewish organizations on security. "It's more methodical than meets the eye. . ."

With a warrant, I believe they can track those calls.

I may be wrong, but if not, I’d sure love to see the culprit put away for a long time over this.

They imply Trump is to blame in the article.

I suspect someone is manufacturing these calls and other reported incidents in nations around the world targeting Jews to discredit Trump and other politicians not approved of by the elites of the world.

A journalist in Israel for Channel 2 television cited the incidents the other day, then named a list of politicians like Marine LePen in France and Geert Wilders in the Netherlands calling them “anti-Semitic”.

The article I read at the conservative Israel National News website was quick to point out that Mr. Wilders lived and worked for two years in Israel on a collective farm. Hardly the kind of activity you would expect of an anti-Semite.

Time for Jews to obtain their concealed carry permits and do some training.

The goal of terrorism is to terrorize.

Sometimes we solely focus on if there was a body count and how many.

Actually, Christianity is the most targeted religion. But Judaism is a tight second.

This looks like it is an organized, coordinated effort. That’s a lot different from some random, disgruntled kook, or a kid hoping to avoid taking a test.

I almost posted this as a new thread but did FR search and saw it.

I am Jewish and a Trump supporter, a Jewish liberal friend(as most are) forwarded me the link without comment. I am furious because this is exactly what Trump is talking about with CNN and the media. It's a lot more than an inference that Trump is responsible, it hits the reader over the head.

The story is that anti Semitism is on the rise. The header asks “is anyone paying attention?”, so I wonder, has CNN reported on these crimes until now?. As others pointed out, if these were threats made to Mosques, or African American churches, each one would be a headline. Anti semitism is thousand of years old, nothing new.

Who knows who's doing this? White neo Nazis? BLM types, Muslim's or just plain idiots? No one knows and I hope they are caught. The idea that TRUMP inspired this is so sick, but of course so is the whole Trump is an Anti Semite narrative. He could have done better answering the question he was asked, just say NO, I don't inspire antisemitism...
How ironic. Obama stabbed Israel in the back repeatedly, considered Rev. Wright a mentor, etc and he's Mr. Clean on the Jews.(he did have a lot of Jews in his circle, and I;m not saying he was antisemitic, just anti Zionist). Trump has a Jewish Secy of Treasury,Jewish Deputy Atty General many Jewish people in his inner circle (Kushner, Miller,Icahn, etc) and he's slandered here and by the rest of the MSM.

Of course, being a Jewish conservative is like being a Black or Gay conservative. You are pretty much shunned.

You make so many great points.

Hard to know for sure, but IMO 0vomit was anti-Semitic. The only reason he had Jews in his circle was because he found them useful. Also, IMO, if they ceased to be useful to him, then like anyone else, they would have been under the bus.
