Some states are reinstituting the welfare work requirements for able-bodied. But a lot aren’t, even though official employment numbers are excellent. Who wants to work when they can get half as much for doing nothing (above the table anyway)?
Skilled construction workers will stay scarce though.
Any luck inquiring at high/vocational schools for help?
Last fall I talked to a foreman of a company who does excavating. They have 500 employees and are a union shop.
They try job fairs, offer free training, anything they can. Too many people just don’t want to leave the couch.
Many people can’t pass a drug test, can’t get a drivers license etc.
Shelter guy is one of those guys who can’t find any to work for minimum wage so he goes to Home Depot and picks up Paco Sanchez and pays him under the table.
